Year 2 & 6 News
Pen Pal Lunch (Year 2)
Last Friday (22 March), the Year 2 students walked down and met their Beaumaris Primary School Pen Pals at the oval behind the Beaumaris Library. There were squeals of excitement from the Beaumaris students as we walked up to the oval. Once we arrived, we matched the students with their Pen Pals and then spent the next hour, eating, chatting and playing with sports equipment.
It was so pleasing to see the interaction between the students and the level of engagement and excitement with all the students. It was also wonderful for us to see the feedback that has come through on the Pen Pal Letter Writing Learning Task and the responses from the students.
Excursion to the Shrine (Year 6)
On Monday (25 March), the Year 6 students visited the Shrine of Remembrance to support their 'Where We Are in Place and Time' Unit of Inquiry. Students participated in the Spirit of ANZAC program where they gained an insight into the experience of Australian soldiers and nurses during the Great War.
The volunteer tour guides shared stories about our Australian war heroes and what they endured, highlighting their spirit, courage, loyalty, mateship and initiative. The children saw a boat from the Gallipoli landing and admired the eternal flame which is a symbol of sacrifice. They experienced a minute’s silence in the sanctuary and witnessed the ray of light shining on the word LOVE in a simulation of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month when the armistice ended the fighting. The tour enabled students to empathise and understand what life would have been like for Victorians over 100 years ago.
History Toolbox Incursion (Year 6)
Today (28 March), the Year 6 students participated in a 'History Box Incursion' to enhance their classroom studies. The students held and examined several interesting artefacts and dressed up in authentic uniforms. They tried their hand at writing using a nib pen with ink, made clay medals and played ‘two up’! The incursion was a fun and informative learning experience!
