Our School Band!

After a couple of setbacks, our new BNPS School Band had a successful first rehearsal on Thursday 21 March. The Year 5 members were at the Beach Program, but Years 4 and 6 were present and very focused on the job. We were able to play through the entire arrangement of our first song by the end of the session!

Another staff member came in to listen to us and was excited to tell us that she could recognise the song, so we must have been playing well! This first song, 'Side by Side' will be accompaniment for the Junior Choir.

I invited the Year 6 players to be Section Leaders at our rehearsal this week, so that they could help the Year 5 members to learn their parts quickly.

As their Classroom Music Teacher, as well as the Band’s Arranger and Conductor, I am very encouraged by the efficiency of the group. No doubt I will be well and truly kept on my toes providing them with lots of wonderful music to play.

So far our band includes guitars, ukulele, flutes, violin, piano, xylophones and percussion.

I have already had fruitful discussions with Simon Lindsay (BNPS Instrumental Music Program Coordinator) and Susie King (BNPS Singing Teacher) about working collaboratively with this new ensemble, so – the sky is the limit!

Children for the School Band were selected in consultation with Simon Lindsay (BNPS Instrumental Music Program Coordinator). Together we chose students who we felt were at a suitable playing standard and able to demonstrate commitment and a sense of responsibility.
