Ski Camp

Year 10 Ski Camp Reflection

Last week on Wednesday, 28 August, a group of year 10 students and a handful of staff headed to Mt Buller for a three day Ski Camp. At 4:30am we arrived at school in various states of consciousness and promptly got on the bus in the dark to what was a really fun camp.

When we arrived at Mt Buller we were all keen to begin skiing or snowboarding but first, we needed to hire equipment. We then split off into smaller groups based on experience to have lessons with the instructors. Personally, it was my first time skiing so the instructors were very helpful and gave me the guidance to improve over the three days. We all got the opportunity to improve our skills in our own time after lunch when we got to go off with our peers.

The Highlights!

Towards the end of Wednesday, we were all very lucky because it started to snow. This was the first time for many of us to see it snowing. One of the highlights for me was getting to support one another which gave the camp such a positive atmosphere. It was really good to see everyone take responsibility for each other by waiting for our peers at the end of a run or stopping to help our friends. On Thursday and Friday, we had two bluebird days with completely blue skies, and even needed to put sunscreen on to prevent sunburn from the snow’s reflection!

The Challenges

We all faced individual challenges at camp that we were able to overcome with support from our peers. We improved our resilience because we all had times when we fell but got back up and continued to ski or snowboard without letting the fall discourage us. By the end of the camp, many of us could agree that we felt proud of ourselves for going on runs that we couldn’t imagine even attempting on the first day, which really made the camp memorable.
