Around Grade 5/6

Learning Collaboratively and Celebrating Success

Curriculum

We are very grateful for your ongoing support of your child's learning. We are working hard to engage the students with high quality lessons.

  • In Writing - we are continuing with publishing our books
  • In Reading, the students are going to work in small groups on poetry
  • In Maths - we will be investigating fractions (and eventually decimals and percentages)
  • In Inquiry - we are starting a new Economics unit pondering the question "With limited financial resources, how do we make choices as a consumer?"

Resources Required:

For Wednesday's Maths, students will need 3 A4 pieces of paper, a ruler, scissors and pencils / textas. Ideally, they need 3 snaplock bags (or other container) to store their fraction walls safely.

Family Discussion

Wednesday's Economics lesson is about 'needs and wants'. There are a number of scenarios. If you have the time, discuss this lesson with your child and ask them to justify their choices. This should create great discussion and critical thinking!

Please remind your child of the importance of attending the daily 10am Meet and their allocated small group sessions.

Picture Story Books

We are excited to announce that all the children's picture story books are going to be  professionally published! They will look like a 'real picture story book' and will be something to treasure forever.

If you can encourage your child's 'best work / effort', I know they will be most proud of themselves when they see their book published.

Year 5/6 Podcast

Some of our students have been creating a podcast called ACPS On Air. We hope you enjoy their second episode. All students are welcome to contribute and join the podcasting team.
