F/1s have been working with tracing hands and making animals! We experimented with changing our hands into different shapes, tracing around them, and then using our Value of Creativity to turn it into a new creature. The results were amazing. We also read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and created our own caterpillars using lots of different techniques including sculpture, collage, drawing and even using clothing items! Some fabulous ideas and lots of effort!

2/3s have been looking at the paintings of Italian artist, Giuseppe Arcimboldo, who painted portraits of people using different fruits and vegetables. The students used his works as inspiration and created their own portraits using lots of different techniques including collage, sculpture and drawing. I was so impressed with the effort put into this activity. It was terrific to see students experimenting with different techniques and uploading multiple creations to the page.

4/5/6s have spent the last fortnight in New York City, studying the work of both Andy Warhol and Keith Haring. Last week, we began our journey into Pop Art, looking at some of Warhol’s Campbell Soup series. Students created their own soup can label in the style of Warhol, but also using the country they are studying for their Inquiry project as further inspiration. The results were just fantastic. This week, students took a virtual tour of the NGV exhibition ‘Keith Haring and Jean-Michael Basquiat Crossing Lines’. They looked at Haring’s work (including his mural in Collingwood) and technique and then created their own series of ‘dancers’ using line design to show movement. Using their Inquiry country for further inspiration, they added colour to complete their work.
