From the Principal

New Build

We are nearly there! The classroom section is complete and we are now waiting for the administration block to be finished. When this is done and the building has been signed off by both Rendine and the Education Department we will be moving in. Hopefully this will be next Monday!

The building really progressed over the school holidays- painting, carpet, air conditioners , cupboards, deck and many more great features. It is very exciting to see how modern and fresh everything looks. Hopefully parents will be allowed into the school sometime this term to see our new environment operating.

I would like to thank all staff for all their efforts over the past months as this project has been undertaken. It has been rather challenging with the new build and the COVID-19 virus. Our staff have been absolutely wonderful and have continued to operate under very difficult conditions. It has been a credit to their dedication and commitment to working together as a team.

The students must also be congratulated. They have made massive adjustments during this year. I have had numerous comments from the construction company on how well behaved and courteous the students have been during this operation. They have noted the students ability to play harmoniously in the yard and obey the requests to stay away from the working grounds. I feel very proud to be part of this great community. Great job Team Rollins!

Canteen

The canteen will resume on Monday 27th July and will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Camp Australia

Late last term Haileigh  Jones unfortunately needed back surgery. which meant a number of weeks recovery time. Although much improved, Haileigh will be taking up a new position at Camp Australia which will allow her to fully recover over a period of time.

Haileigh has been an incredible asset to our community since taking on the co-coordinator role at Rollins and we are extremely sad to be losing her services while she recovers.

We have a new interim Coordinator who started last Monday. Her name is Maria Francesca Demaisip. She goes by the name Francesca. She has worked in the Camp Australia  Holiday Programs  and already knows some of the Rollins students. She comes from a teaching background, and is really looking forward to getting into the service and supporting our school community during this transition.

iPads

Just a reminder to parents who borrowed a school ipad during last terms lock-down. These were due to be returned on the first day of this term.If you have not already done so please return the iPad, charger and plug in a bag with your child's name clearly visible.

Assembly

Our next assembly will be on Friday 24th July at 3pm. It may take a different format this term (still online) so keep an eye out for a COMPASS update.

Cyber Safety Reminder

During this COVID period many people are spending more and more time online and, as great as online games, apps etc can be, there can be hidden dangers associated. Parents must remain alert and aware of the behaviour of their child/ren online at all times, particularly when befriending other people.  For more information about cyber safety and key app information for parents, please refer to the Other Information page of this newsletter.

Services Available to Assist

One day a week  we have a psychologist who works at the school. She is able to have 6-10 sessions with children who may need some emotional support. Please contact me at the school if you think this may be of assistance.  All that is required is a plan from your local GP. There is no cost to families using this service.

Principal's Pondering

A Growth Mindset message...

Research has explained a growth mindset as ‘a willingness to confront challenges, viewing failure as a springboard for growth, and a passion for learning. Not surprisingly, this type of mindset is strongly linked to greater happiness and achievement in life.’ Children who are happy, comfortable, safe and confident have a greater outcome with learning and socialising.

Here’s a child friendly video as made by one of our communication apps, Class Dojo, that explains it brilliantly.
