School Council/PFA

Hello from Newlands School Council

Who is School Council, you may ask, and what do they do?

School Council exists to support the school’s educational goals and values, and to provide oversight of the strategic plan, finances and operational policies.

Our current School Council is made up of three members of the NPS leadership and teaching team (Ross, Luke and Mark) and seven parents, with children from across various year levels: Adam Palmer (President), Wendy Brown (Secretary), Dung Nguyen, Chris Drummond, Scott Glover, Helen Barrett and Leonie Duncan.

This current Council (pictured, Zoom style) was formed in April 2020 via video conference – as is the way in these strange times. Please look out for these friendly faces and feel free to have a chat (at an appropriate social distance of course!) if you have questions or ideas you would like to put to School Council.

Council meets approximately eight times a year.  In between these meetings, School Council representatives participate in six sub-committees and act as information conduits between the two. These sub-committees are: Education & Policy, Buildings & Grounds, Finance, Parents & Friends Association, Out of School Hours Care, and a new one for 2020 – Communications!  If any parents or carers are interested in joining one of these sub-committees please get in touch with Luke.

Parents and Friends

The Newlands Parents and Friends Association aims to foster and support community spirit and engagement amongst all students, staff, parents and friends, and to raise money for services and facilities for our beloved Newlands Primary.

We would like to extend an offer to all parents and friends to join us. We meet once a month (by online zoom meetings for now) to plan and facilitate events and fund raising initiatives. We would love to have you join us, or to keep up with what we are doing by visiting our Newlands PFA page on Facebook (Newlands PFA), where you can join the discussion, contribute ideas, and get involved. All input is valuable to us, and greatly appreciated.

Please email our new Secretary Imogen at imogenmbannister@gmail.com to join our Facebook group, and for further details.

Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday 21st July at 7:30pm (online).

We are pleased to announce that our new office bearers were voted in for 2020 at our Annual General Meeting in early June. Congratulations to Charlotte Hurry, our new President, Imogen Bannister, our new Secretary, and Adam Palmer who will continue in his role as Treasurer. Adam is also the President of the School Council. We would like to thank Tash Groves who did an awesome job of leading the PFA as President in 2017 and 2018, and stayed on at the request of the PFA members as Vice President in 2019, and Michelle Burton for her terrific work as Secretary in 2019 until June 2020.  A huge thanks to you both, and everyone who contributed to the PFA’s work in 2019.

Simon Jeanes

2019 President
