Primary School News

Primary School

Hello Collingwood families!

It’s been a while since I have added anything to the newsletter and I must apologise....what I am finding is that I am gravitating toward Instagram for my Collingwood College news on the daily.

How many of you are doing the same? I am guilty of extra screen time whilst scrolling through Instagram. I call it self-care at the moment. It’s a lovely distraction looking at the Collingwood College feed and viewing the amazing work the students are producing at home.

Please keep the photos coming! If you have completed anything that you are proud of at home, send it through to your specialist teachers or classroom teacher.

Online content is becoming so important for many reasons in our current climate. We are using it as a form of communication and it’s a way of reaching out to the school community and forming a sense of solidarity in uncertain times.

The Primary Leadership team have been using a variety of online platforms to continue the important work with student enrolments. Now more than ever we are reaching out to prospective families and offering them the personalised service of a virtual school tour. We are using Google Meet, Zoom and FaceTime to connect with our prospective prep families. Through these platforms we can take a family on a virtual tour of the school and prep classrooms while answering questions about the Steiner and Reggio Emilia pedagogy which form the rich tapestry of our primary school.

We are also running Virtual Information Sessions. Our next sessions are coming up at the end of August and they will be advertised on Instagram.

If you have a sibling, family member or friend who is ready for Prep in 2021 please look out for our next Virtual Information Session via Instagram. In addition to this, to book a personalised virtual tour email margaretd@collingwood.vic.edu.au and tarrynm@collingwood.vic.edu.au

We cant wait to welcome our new prep students in 2021. Thank you to those families that have engaged via our virtual session. Our spots are filling up fast.

Take care everyone. Look out for the Collingwood College Leadership video on Instagram soon.

EPIC COMICS BY 3-4 REGGIO

Our comics are inspired by the book ‘Guts’ by Raina Telgemeier. It’s a graphic novel that explores one year in the life of a year 4 student in America. It’s a true story!

Here are some quotes about making comics:

“It has been super fun making comics because it’s better than all the other boring school work,” Rennie said.

“I like to make comics about all sorts of things, there’s one about pizza, gardens, netball, one about feelings and one about chocolate balls,” said Mollie

“Guts is a really interesting book because I can understand some of how she’s feeling,” said Retaj.

REMOTE LEARNING PRIMARY VISUAL ART/PERFORMING ARTS

Students at Collingwood College have proven once again how creative they are by making amazing work while working remotely.

CELEBRATING DIVERSITY

It is exciting even though school has been disrupted to also share and celebrate the work students have been making while at school this year. Year 3/4 students have been exploring African culture and diversity through Art and Performing Arts.

Students have created wonderful paintings as well as choreographing their own dance pieces to an African music piece that talks about immigration. You might want to have a listen.
