Principal's Message

Welcome to Term 4
Welcome back to Term 4 which will be a delightfully busy term for all of our students as they finish their year and start their Early commencement Program (ECP). Our Year 12s will also say goodbye, which is a sad time for them and us but also a positive time of new beginnings too. We wish them well in their exams and in their future adventures in life.
Farewell to our Year 12 Students
Year 12s it does not seem so long ago that we had your Day 1 Assembly in the Multipurpose Room, which has now become the Halliburton wing.
At this assembly I mentioned that all too quickly we will be farewelling you at your valedictory evening when you walk down the carpet all gowned up.
That day is nearly here and I know many of you have already arranged your valedictory dresses in preparation for the big event. And, like you, I look forward to seeing you on this night, to see you so excited about your futures and relieved that the tensions of Year 12 have finally passed.
However, between now (well after tomorrow) and then there is so much to do. There are exams to prepare for and complete. This is a time to use every so wisely. A time to embrace what your teachers have taught you. A time to hound your teachers for feedback.
If I can give you one piece of advice, it would be to meet with your teachers every week until you sit your exam and to seek feedback from them consistently.
I can tell you they want you to do this. So please, make them feel better and meet with them regularly to steer you and guide you that little bit longer.
When you have finished your final exam, I want you to be able to say, “I did my best. I did not give up – even when it was tough and I hassled my teachers as much as possible."
Before I finish Year 12s I would like to thank all of you for your contributions to our school over the past 6 years. You have been a terrific cohort and we will miss you.
You have been leaders in so many ways: peer support leaders, area captains, sport captains, house captains, group leaders, SRC leaders, class captains and role models for our younger students.
You have represented our school so well in a variety of pursuits: sports, camps, community outreach activities, ANZAC marches, assisted in local primary schools and aged care centres, environmental groups, the garden and in local community cultural festivities.
Thank you for your time and effort.
Finally, as you formally leave MFG I want you to know that once you have been a MFG student you will always have a place here.
Year 12s - remember to Keep Looking Forward and finish well – no, not well…brilliantly!

Buildings Update
The demolition of the Embling Building is complete and work has started to restore and refurbish it. With the additional asbestos removal and the costs due to the delays and changes with Powercor we are in a position where we have had to de-scope our building project and make some significant compromises. The extent of these are still not known. However, without additional funds from the Government, we will have to compromise on important parts of our very modest refurbishment, which is disappointing.
