DAV Report
Round 1 of the 2016 Debating Association of Victoria competition was held recently at Brighton Grammar School: congratulations to the seven SBC teams who competed, some very good results alongside some measures for improvement, outlined below.
It was also nice to see two ex-SBC debaters who are now adjudicating in the Bayside region – Kaih Mitchell (Yr. 12, 2014) and Connor Johnston (Yr. 12, 2015) in attendance for this round.
Congratulations also to John Haycroft, College Debating Captain, 2016.

A Grade- Topic “That the media should not be permitted to report on criminal cases until after the trial.”
SBC 1 - John Haycroft, Nicholas Pudney and Nathan Saldana, lost by 2 points to BGS.
C Grade:Topic: “That we should not permit the sale of alcohol after midnight.”
SBC 1 - Nicholas Gale, Malcom Liddell and Aaron Gill, won against St Leonard’s 6 by four points. Best Speaker, Nicholas Gale.
SBC 2 – Edward McGarry, Thomas Laragy and Joshua Oliver, lost against St Leonard’s 5.
D Grade: Topic: “That Australia should become a republic”
SBC 1 – Dillon Bullman, Jeremy Mann, Patrick Smith, won against Star of the Sea by three points, joint Best Speakers, Dillon Bullman and Jeremy Mann.
SBC 2 – Bye
SBC 3 – Jacob Barry, Jack Pooley and William Devlin, lost by two points to Kostka Hall 4.
SBC 4 – Sam Gough, Ronan Larkin and Declan Dawson, won by a point against Star of the Sea 2.
Best Speaker, Declan Dawson.
