Assessment, Feedback and Reporting

With Term 2 well underway I’d like to recognise the work our wonderful teachers have done in the new Active Assessment, Feedback and Reporting environment.  Parents and carers will have noticed a change in the style of comments when they logged onto the Parent Access Module (PAM).  This style of feedback is targeted to the task and is improvement focussed.  St Bede’s College has based the change to this system on the best in educational research, about what really makes a difference to student achievement.  We are at the beginning of this change journey, and hope that all parents and carers engage by logging onto PAM.  A reminder that the next lot of feedback will be available on PAM on 16 May .  Usernames and passwords for PAM were sent in February, and should be kept in a safe place as PAM will be used for a range of purposes during your son’s time at St Bede’s College.

Student Free Day

This Friday 22 April  is a staff professional learning day.  Days such as these provide a rare chance for the teaching staff to gather to reflect and learn about how we can improve our own teaching practice.  We have engaged Melbourne University Professor John Hattie’s Visible Learning Team in a full day of workshops.  The content for the day ties in with our assessment, feedback and reporting changes.

Naplan

Students in Years 7 and 9 will complete NAPLAN testing on 10, 11 and 12 May.  Year 7 students will be completing NAPLAN tests in their homeroom groups while students in Year 9 will complete the testing as a year level group in the College hall.  Further information regarding NAPLAN will be sent home in the coming weeks.

Advanced notice

Students in Years 9 and 10 will complete exams from Monday 30 May  to Monday 6 June.   Exams are held for core subjects, which are Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Science and Geography/History.  Exams in the middle school are an opportunity for students to develop good study habits.   Further information, including a timetable, will be sent out in the middle of this term.
