Genrefication Is Coming To Carwatha College P-12 Library!

"Where are your scary books?"

"Do you have any books like Twilight?"

“I like reading crime novels. What do you suggest?’

We are currently transforming the fiction collection. We are implementing a new strategy to promote reading and literacy through the ‘genrefication’ of the fiction collection. Instead of books being shelved according to author, we are rearranging and labelling our fiction books by genre. We have chosen six of the most popular genres to begin with: science fiction, horror, fantasy, chick literature, classics and crime novels.

Benefits

  • Students can find the books they want more easily as they will still be arranged alphabetically by author within the genre and each genre is colour coded. Science fiction, Future, Dystopian Fiction and Steampunk all have a yellow sticker at the base of the spine. The Classics have a purple sticker, Chick Lit and Romance is pink, etc. Also, with all of one genre together, students can more easily select a book appropriate to their age and reading level.
  • Books are organized the way students look for them.
  • We can instantly identify holes in our collection.

Lunchtime Crafts

Over the last two weeks our lunchtime craft sessions have been organised around Mother’s Day. We hope the mums or grandmothers whose children attended the sessions will enjoy the love contained in their gift.
