Primary News

From The Assistant Principal

It has been a busy couple of weeks in the Primary Sector of the College.

Last Friday our grades five and six students participated in their first GALA sports day for the year. From all accounts, they had a great day. The students are to be congratulated on their fine behavior and sportsmanship. Well done!

Grade Prep- 3L celebrated their unit of work by having a Multicultural Lunch last week.  It was wonderful to see the varied and different food that students brought to share. It was also great to see students sample all the different food.

Thank you to Anne Copley and her team of helpers who set up, and manned, the Mothers' Day Stall. The children enjoyed their shopping experience, taking home some lovely gifts!

I'd like to remind parents once again, to please name all items of clothing, particularly windcheaters and bomber jackets. There are already many unnamed items in lost property which must belong to someone.

Multicultural Lunch

The Multicultural Lunch was held last Tuesday.

Prep/1M, 1/2Z, 2/3A and 3L all enjoyed a lunch from all around the world.

Students were very adventurous and tried different and unusual foods.

A big thank you to all the families who cooked for us and shared a little bit of their unique culture!

Everyone enjoyed the experience!

Gala Day

Sports Report – Gala Day 1 – 5/5/17

On Friday we had 4 sports head out including, AFL, Tee ball, Netball and Basketball. A big thank you to all who helped out on the day; the day wouldn’t have run as smoothly without you.

Basketball travelled out to Dandenong Basketball Stadium. We had 4 teams entered on the day, 1 boys' team, 1 mixed team and 2 girls' teams. Our second girls team and our boys team had a good afternoon winning 2 games, drawing 1 game and losing 1 both finishing 4th in their pools. The mixed team battled hard all day and managed in the end to win their final game to end the day on a high note. Our first girls' team managed to make the final winning 4 games, drawing 1 game and losing 1. In the final they worked extremely hard but unfortunately went down to a strong opposition in Rosewood Downs.

Netball had two teams competing, a mixed team and a girls’ team. Both teams started out strong with a win in their first games. In the end the teams finished 1st and 4th for the day.

It was a cold start down at Greaves Reserve but that didn’t stop the Netball, Tee ball and AFL teams. The boys in AFL got off to a slow start losing their first two games but worked extremely hard to come back in the next two, finishing the day with 2 wins. Everyone showed great determination and persistence to work as a team to overcome their challenges. In the end they finished up in 6th spot which is the best we have done in a number of years.

Our T-ball team had a fantastic time at Gala Day. We won our first match for the day and had a couple of close finishes in other games but unfortunately just missed out on winning those games. In our final game we were playing for 7th or 8th place. We had a great game and were able to come out as winners. This meant that we came 7th overall.

All students had a wonderful day; they were full of energy and enthusiasm, representing Carwatha College to the best of their ability. Everyone should be proud of their efforts and I look forward to our next Gala Day later in the term. We would love to have as many parent helpers as possible. It is a great opportunity to come see how fantastic our sports program is and watch the kids in action!

Gala Day 2 – Friday 23rd June

Please if you can help on the day, come and see Mr Richards or Miss Levy.

Art

Grade 2/3A

Racoon Oil Pastel Drawing

Students looked carefully at images of racoons. We looked at the texture and colour of their hair, and shape of their eyes, ears and nose.

Using a lead pencil we sketched lightly these main features, and then used oil pastels to add colour and texture to our racoons by flicking and blending.

Finally, adding a water colour background to compete our artwork.
