Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening

Staff have analysed data from Spelling and Reading assessments and grouped students according to their needs. Students participate in 6 targeted workshops each week to improve their application of spelling and reading strategies. Developing these strategies is vital to students’ success in all areas of the curriculum. 

Writing to inform through Information Reports will be our focus in Term 3. In addition, vocabulary expansion will be dependent on text topics as well as words focussed on through class novels. 

Students also have the opportunity to regularly express their ideas and work on specific aspects of their writing through regular Ten Minute Writing tasks. Proof reading and editing written work will also be a focus with the expectation that students take greater responsibility for this. 

Term 4 will see a focus on grammar and sentence structures to enable the students to expand their writing choices and assist them to develop a more sophisticated style across all areas of the curriculum,

Listening and speaking skills will be developed through class participation, assembly presentations, Year 7 speeches and class based oral presentations.
