Foundation News

Goodbye & Thank you!

I can't believe I'm saying this... it's hard to believe! I do have one more week with your lovelies before I step away for Family Leave on Friday 6th December.  I want to take this opportunity to say T H A N K   Y O U to all of our families that I've had the pleasure of getting to know this year and over the years in our community.  As a 2019 class, I've had a ball working with the student group and seeing them grow and develop - as an adult, you never stop learning!  I love my job and each student brings me joy and laughter in their own special way. Thank you to our parent community for your support with your time, assistance, donations especially the way you've supported me in my role as a teacher.

I could not have done my job without my sidekick and support staff - Kylie Mitchell.  She's been amazing - the way she puts the students first and will do anything for them... and goes above and beyond what is expected of her.  Thank you Kylie for being you and your dedication to our students.

I wish all of my Foundation students the very best for Junior School and beyond - my little life long learners! I will be back at KPS so I look forward to seeing you in the near future!

Excursion to Mornington Beach - 5th DEC!

At this stage we are looking at the weather forecast and it's not that great for Tuesday 3rd December so we are changing the date of of the excursion to Thursday 5th December.

A notice will go home on Monday regarding the date and what to bring. Thanks for your understanding.

We've been learning...

- WRITING - we're moving away from Information Reports which you should be able to see on SeeSaw as they've been uploaded.  We've explored letters and the difference between a statement and a question.  Our letters to Santa have been sent to the North Pole so we are waiting for our return letter!  This is a great time of year to get your child to be writing their christmas cards to family and friends and letters to family members. Students will explore other transactional examples of writing between now and the end of term.  Next Friday I will be sending home their writing folders with work samples from the year.  This is a great point of discussion with your child about what skills they have developed as a writer over the year and also a great keep sake to put in the box!

- MATHS - this has been fun - Number Bonds!!! Students are loving their knowledge of number facts to 10 and 20.  Using materials to see the how the numbers work and having mini challenges to answer the question accurately has been a large focus.  Ask your child what their number bonds to 10 or 20 are and I'm sure they will blow you away! Check us out!

- READING - we've been analysing authors!  Students have fallen in love with particular books by author's such as Pamella Allen, Aaron Blabey, Nick Bland, Lynn Dodd, Mem Fox and Dr. Seuss.  We've looked closely at their word choice and noted what makes them great is that they include the following as a writer - funny/humorous words, onomatopoeia (sound associated with the word eg: Woof), rhyme, big and small text or curved text and new/interesting words.  If there's one thing you can make time for in the lead up to the silly season, curl up and enjoy a great book with your child - they are great listeners and love it when an adult is a storyteller!

THURSDAY 5th DEC - Excursion to Mornington Beach

Stay Safe & Merry Christmas
