MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS

Rebecca Durran

Middle Sub-School Manager

Welcome to Term 2.  Yes, it is different to what we are used to, but I would like to take the time to congratulate the Year 9 and 10 students for engaging with remote learning, from home, in such a professional manner during this time.

We have received a lot of positive feedback in regards to how the online learning has been running.  I would like to thank all the students and parents/carers for their ongoing commitment to education.

If you are having any issues accessing work, please email your class teacher directly for assistance. If extra support is needed, then make contact with your Year Level Coordinator . All staff at North Geelong Secondary College are willing to help and have your best interests at heart so please be in contact if you have any concerns.

During remote learning it is important that you are all looking after your mental and physical health and wellbeing. Below are some tips that you can do daily to ensure you are staying healthy and getting the most out of your learning during this time.

Get enough sleep at night

Have a nutritious breakfast

Spend some time outside away from electronic devices

Complete regular physical activity

Take some time to be mindful or show gratitude throughout the day

The students are being amazing! One of my Year 10 boys, Jason Japundzic, is still putting his uniform on each day – he tells me he wants to feel “professional” – love it!!

The students’ patience and adaptability has been exceptional this term. I’ve had two Year 9 groups and a Year 10 group tackle quite a complex assessment task this week (one that should have been done before the holidays started and had to be delayed by THREE weeks because of the early closure). They have done so with resilience and determination. Fantastic effort!!

In terms of what parents can do to assist - reduce your child’s distractions – if the students are working in their bedrooms, mobile phones should be on the kitchen bench or somewhere similar. Like they are at school, no phones during the school day.
