JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWS

Mr Steve Quinn

Junior Sub-School Manager

What an interesting start to term 2 it has been! I don’t think any of us could have imagined at the start of 2020 that we would be sitting in class and yet be so far away from each other. However, in true North Geelong Secondary College fashion, we are embracing the challenge with enthusiasm and positivity.

The Year 7 and 8 students are to be commended for their efforts so far this term. They have negotiated the challenges of online learning and assessment with great maturity. I have been hearing stories from staff and parents of students being organised, punctual, motivated and even taking over classes to support their peers with technical difficulties that their teacher has trouble managing. These are some of the reasons why I love my job and why we will be able to achieve great learning outcomes in our new environment.

Regarding our online classrooms, it is our aim to maintain as much of the school's normalities as we can while working remotely and therefore, it is essential for only students and teachers to be present in class. I know it can be quite hard for some parents and carers who may want to take advantage of this new situation to provide support to their students while at home. However, we ask that you let them be the independent learners we are looking to develop, ask for help in class themselves and seek extra support when required outside class hours via email with their teachers. If you do have any questions or concerns please follow the usual processes of emailing or calling the relevant staff members or the school.

Finally, please remember to stay active and look after your physical and mental health while at home. We cannot achieve our best academically if we do not manage our new lockdown lifestyle with our health in mind.

Stay safe and look after each other.
