SAYING THANK YOU AND ADIEU

“A few weeks ago as our youngest at St Andrews was preparing for VCE exams, I was reflecting on our family's past 16 years in this school. Four years ago, I was sad at the thought it was the last time I would have all three kids in the car going to school; this year I'm ecstatic, "Yay!! No more school runs!"

To all our fellow parents who are nervous about what's in store in this new chapter for The Class of 2018, please be assured God is just as faithful and even more protective than we were when our toddlers first started walking. It is remarkable how similar these two phases in life are. Just as when toddlers, these teenagers will relish finding their own feet and taking off!! It's our response as parents that changes; instead of running after them, we learn to stand still and pray an awful lot!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank God for the blessings He has lavished on our family through St Andrews. When our eldest started Prep our youngest of our four children was born. Our family life was turned upside down as the hospital became our second home and managing the basics was difficult. That "just 10 minutes a day" reading with our Preppies was an impossible task; and that's where God demonstrated His love by the school community putting their arms around us. A teacher's aide volunteered her time after school to come to our home to read that reader, our children were always assured a place with parents reading during classroom time, the Principal at the time told us, "You look after your baby and we will look after your other children".

Just as you will never find the perfect church, there is also no such thing as the perfect school; instead you can have a village to help you raise your children. The administrative staff who sacrificially 'just make stuff happen', the teachers who diligently nurture as well as educate, the groundsmen who brilliantly combine chores with chaplaincy, faithful PFA volunteers who encourage community, the lovely Sally who graciously manages with life's emergencies before and after school..... From the bottom of my heart and on behalf of our family, I thank you all!

For the few years as Icy Pole coordinator, I got to know so many parents personally and over the phone, "Hi there! I'm just reminding you that you're rostered on this Friday...." I loved seeing the shy waves, excited smiles and whispers, "Look! There's the Icy Pole lady" as I walked across the yard each week with my bag of goodies to fill the freezer. It is a very true statement that 'you only get out what you're willing to put in' and when it's done for God, His generosity is over-abundant in return.

To the parents coming through St Andrews, I would like to pass on the best advice I was given 16 years ago: wherever possible, get to know your child's teachers. Make an effort to build relationships with them as people, not just as your child's educator. Also, pray for them - they pray for our children! These teachers invest a significant proportion of their lifetime to benefit our children and they truly are the 'warriors' of our village.

May you all know God's blessings in your family as richly as He is blessing ours, and may God continue His work in St Andrews Christian College.”

For His glory,

May Anderson

As outlined in our Uniform Policy, all students with hair longer than shoulder length are to have their hair neatly tied back.  If ribbons are worn, they should be in College colours – white, blue or burgundy.

Since we want our students to look smart on the night (clean uniform/shoes polished/tidy hair), students are allowed to wear their sports uniform on Monday 10th December to school so their uniform is clean and presentable for this important event.
