Sports Day
Thank you to everyone who attended our inaugural Twilight Sports Day. The event was extremely successful and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The students participated with enthusiasm and displayed amazing sportsmanship.
Thanks to the Weinert family who presented the shield to the winning Blue team. The House Captains did an amazing job organising their teams and planning their chants.
Congratulations to Jude and Jazz who won the Year 7 sprints event.
Special thanks to Mr Burge who coordinated the day and all of the staff members who supported in their capacity. The Governing Council, Canteen committee and the Parent Help group did an amazing job with the dinners, cake stall, canteen and BBQ.
Exciting Art Project for the TDU
Largs Bay School had the privilege to work with well respected artists Kalyna Micenko and Bob Daly to create colourful appliqué flags to the line St Vincent Street for the upcoming Tour Down Under. These flags will have images designed by our R-2 students with the theme of “River life” and will flutter as the cyclists ride by and hopefully be captured by the local and international TV cameras. Thank you to the PAE Council for their support of this project.
After the TDU, the flags will stay in the district, owned by PAEC and be available to be used at school events like fetes, sports days, art shows etc in the future.
Elders Visit
The Message Stick Relay was held during Nunga Week from Monday, 6/11 until Friday 10/11. In support of this occasion, the Port Adelaide /Enfield Council organised some Aboriginal Elders to come in to visit each participating school. We were honoured to have 6 Elders visit our school on the Monday to meet with the year 4/5’s in rooms 30, 31, 32 and 33. The Elders who participated were Auntie Veronica, Auntie Heather, Auntie Dot, Auntie Daisy, Auntie Diana and Auntie Colleen. The elders collectively talked to the classes and told stories of their exceptional lives. They answered many questions about their schooling and growing up together on missions. Each woman had her own experiences and stories to tell and it was great to get a firsthand experience of what life was like and is like for Aboriginal people growing up. All of the students were very respectful and interested to listen to each of the inspirational women speaking. The theme for the week was “Language” and our school was presented a cd, “Tirkanthi” on learning Kaurna language, a Message Stick decorated by the men’s Elders group and a Kaurna language book, “Kulurdu Mani Ngathaitya!”, which translates to “Sounds Good to Me! on behalf of the Port Adelaide/Enfield Council.

Although the new subsidy doesn't come into effect until July 2018, it's important that families are aware of the change.
