LANGUAGE TESTIMONIALS

Minister Merlino recently launched Language Testimonials which promote the benefits to students of learning a language. The online resource comprises 20 video testimonials – 4 by principals and teachers, and 16 by past students of languages in Victorian schools talking about how learning a language at school has impacted positively on their personal and professional lives.

LANGUAGE PEFECT

World Championships

As mentioned in the previous newsletter, Lilydale High School students have excelled in the latest Language Perfect World Championships. 

 

More than 300,000 students participated in this competition and twenty-five of our students were in the top 3% of the global results. 

 

Corinna Toumasiou again made the top 100 list globally and nationally, coming 58th in Australia and 83rd in the world. Corinna, Damian Armstrong and Jessica Clark have earned Elite Awards by accruing more than 10,000 points during the competition. 

 

Each year we hope to improve on the results from the previous year, and this was certainly true for 2015. The students attained 103 awards in this year’s competition which is an increase on the 81 awards in 2014. 

 

Corinna Toumasiou, Damian Armstrong and Jessica Clark achieved Elite Awards, gaining over 10,000 points. Anjana Kandel, Jet Har, Ben Ahale, Derek Villaceran, Noah Parsons, Katelyn Radmanic, Georgia Laven, Lachlan Ahale, Emma Wilkinson, Lilly Smoel, Emily Barling, Bradley Cooper have earned Gold Awards. 

 

Corinna Toumasiou was the top student for Greek and will receive a Gold Medal from Education Perfect as well as her Elite Award for scoring 18,432 points. 

 

Damian Armstrong, Gold Medal for Fijian, and Lachlan Ahale, Silver Medal for Fijian.

 

Ben Ahale received a Bronze Medal for being the third highest scoring student for Samoan.

 

These students have backed up their previous performances, as they were also top scorers in these languages in the 2014 competition.

Fundraising  for 2016 French Sister School Study Tour 

The twenty places for the French tour are quickly being filled. There are still several places available, so those students who have yet to pay their deposits should submit their form and deposit immediately or speak to Dawn Collins, Business Manager, to arrange payment.

 

Orders for Entertainment Books will cease at the end of the term, Friday 26 June.

WEP STUDENT EXCHANGE

Learn and Discover the World

WEP Australia is a not-for-profit student exchange organisation registered with the Education Departments in NSW, QLD and VIC. 

 

Applications for short and long-term programs commencing from November 2015 onward are open now.

 

Students can choose from over 25 countries to live with a volunteer WEP host family and attend an overseas high school for a summer, semester or year.
