YEAR 8 FOOTBALL

The Year 8 Boys football teams had great success at the Yarra District Football competition.

The A Team won the competition easily with a 10 goal win over Monbulk and and 15 goal win over Yarra Hills.   All players contributed throughout the day with the best players being Bailey White, Tobby Spargo and Noah Parsons.

The B Team weren’t as successful as the A’s however showed some terrific talent during their games. Best players for the B Team included Max Gray, Dean Briggs and Jackson Tomazic.

The boys will now begin training for the Eastern Metropolitan Region Competition in late July.

STATE BASEBALL

Intermediate Boys

You could have heard a pin drop on the bus ride to the state competition with the boys fully focused on the challenge that laid ahead.

The boys had some success, beating Reservoir High School 20-0 in the first game and then beating Broadford Secondary College 18-0 in the second game.

With only one team progressing from two pools of four teams, the boys needed to win their final game against Parkdale Secondary College if they were to play in the final.  Despite a massive effort in this game, unfortunately the boys went down by 1 run. Final scores were 8-7.

Overall, the boys finished 3rd out of 8 teams, with the highest percentage of all teams. All players ‘had a crack’ on the day and contributed in some way.

Best players included Cooper Rowntree, Ryan Masters and Will Plemming.

JUNIOR GIRLS FOOTBALL

On Wednesday 27 May, over 50 Year 7-9 girls headed to the Gateway Reserve to compete in the Yarra District Junior Girls Football competition. Lilydale High School entered 2 teams for the day.

The Maroon team started their day slowly finding their feet, but as the day went on they found their confidence and some voice and won their last game of the day against Yarra Hills. Alexis Tucker and Montana Wallis were stand outs for the Maroon team. And a big congratulations and well done to Nicole Akers and Rachel Oates of Year 10 for coaching the Maroon team.

The White team started strongly and continued to build as a team as the day progressed. The girls showed a lot of promise, and team structures and tactics began to shine through by the Final against Lilydale Heights.

There were several standout performances on the day, in particular from Bayswater team mates Kayla Bentley and Katie Cameron. Thank you to Harry Nolan and Tristan Rogers for helping on the day.

The girls will now go through to the next round of competition on Monday 22 June at Koonung Reserve in the Eastern Metropolitan Region Pool phase.
