Around the School

Year 11 Formal
Last Friday evening our Year 11 students had a fantastic time at the inaugural Moama Anglican Grammar Year 11 Formal. Take a look at highlights from the night including the karaoke!
NGV Visit
Last Wednesday the Year 9/10, 11 and 12 Visual Arts classes braved an extra early morning to travel to Melbourne for a Gallery tour. The Year 9/10 Elective class were lucky enough to have a gallery talk and walk around the Vincent Van Gogh exhibition at NGV International. The Year 11 and 12's visited Top Arts, at NGV Australia and then explored NGV Internationals exhibits including: Love: Art of Emotion 1400-1800, Fiona Hall, Festival of Photography, Bill Henson and many more.
The students had a great time exploring and 'imitating' some great art pieces. So much so that we received a phone call today from another visitor to NGV who spoke very highly of our students and staff, their presentation, conduct, kindness and their genuine interest, understanding and enthusiasm for the exhibition.
Well done to all concerned!
Primary Assembly
We had a fantastic primary assembly on Wednesday with many students receiving Core Value Awards and performances from Blake Johns with Pop Goes the Weasel on piano and Genevieve McLindon singing and playing Somewhere Only We Know on piano. Those in attendance were delighted by Bao Long Nguyen (KR) who, along with his classmates and Mrs Ripon, performed the traditional Vietnamese dance Rửa Tay Vui Nhộn (Hand Washing Fun), which educates children on washing their hands.
Maths Olympics
Students and their mathematical minds were put to the test through the week during our Maths Olympics. Racing against their classmates (and the clock), students had to quickly and accurately answer a range of maths problems to win vital House points.
Final results will be advised next Semester
Tri Series Cup Softball
The Tri Series Cup staff vs students softball match was played over lunchtime on Monday and Tuesday. During the first innings the Year 12's came out swinging with our staff needing to pick up the pace if they were to come out on top! On day two the staff were ready to take on the challenge, some big hitters led to a draw at the end of the second innings.
First innings - Staff 3 - Students 4
Seconds innings - Staff 5 - Students 5
Third innings - Staff 11 - Students 5
Homelessness Sleep Out
Some dedicated students and staff committed themselves to our inaugural Year 10 Sleepout for Homelessness overnight! It also happened to coincide with the coldest nightly temperatures recorded so far this year. A hardy group of 15 students and 5 staff braved the intense cold to experience the difficulty of sleeping rough, and to learn more about the issues of homelessness in order to be informed and engage in community conversation. We had presentations from Simone Doody (Team Leader Mental Health and Specialist Homelessness Services) from the Echuca office of Anglicare Victoria. She was able to provide an insight into the various forms that homelessness takes in our local region and how Anglicare works to support these people. We also heard from Jim Aitken. Jim and his wife, Pauline, (both in their 80's) run a relief centre out from their own garage to offer food and supplies to those needing help. He shared how his faith motivates him to care for others. Moama Anglican Grammar's Year 12 Community and Family Studies students (Hollie Luke, Libby Doyle and Matilda Watson) assisted students to think deeply about what it means to be homeless, challenging stereotypes and providing the statistics behind the human lives that are impacted.
Our students received information about the issue, what is already being done to support the homeless and the continuing need for more resources in this area of our community. They were also provided with ideas of what they might do to help our community in responding to those needs.
After the movie, Pursuit of Happiness, which explores the themes of homelessness, the group braved the cold, taking their cardboard mattress and sleeping bag out into the night. It was bitterly cold and not at all comfortable, but in reality was only a small window into the real struggle that the homeless experience on a regular basis in our own towns.
Would you like to learn a little about the issue of homelessness yourself? Tune in to SBS for the three night special (27-29 June) at 8:30pm and watch 'Filthy Rich and Homeless.'
Our students were encouraged to appreciate and be thankful for their blessed lives, to not only see the struggle of homelessness, but also those who reach out to help and finally to be an advocate for change. Our Anglican faith reminds us that it is not just nice to care for those on the margins or society, but our responsibility, as we are called to take the love of God shown in Jesus into the world.
We would like to thank the MAG Parents' and Friends' Association for their support in providing soup for our evening meal. It was delicious!
CSI Grammar
CSI took over today with our Year 4 students on the scene dusting for prints, analysing suspect interviews and piecing together the evidence to find out who did it!
Bible Club
On Thursday this week, at lunch time a group of about 25 students ranging from Years 3 to 10 gathered together in SS3. It was our first Combined Bible Club Event! Students from our Senior Bible Club put on some Minute-2-Win-It games for the younger students to encourage them as they learn the faith. It was part of the 'Live Loud Project', a program focussed on making our faith active and encouraging others. Students had a lot of fun and were reminded that people know we are Christians by the love that we show to those around us!
Bendigo TAFE Experience
On Thursday Year 11 and 10 students Josh D’Angri, Tenaya Cox, Molly Pearce, Ben Napier, Brylee Morgan, Jarred Ludbey and Amie Carter went to the Bendigo TAFE Echuca Campus Experience Day. These students were shown what studying at TAFE and specific fields is like. They explored the campus participating in Plumbing, Electrical, Vet Nursing/Animal Studies, Hospitality, Early Childhood Education and Care, Allied Health and Construction experiences.
Oreo Moon Phases
Our Year 7 students were modelling the phases of the moon using Oreos in today's science class with Mrs Devereux. Yum! Take a look!
