Welcome Back to Term 2
We have a busy and exciting term ahead, with lots of great learning, fun activities, and community events over the next few weeks. It has been lovely to see some more new students commence this term, and we welcome all our new families to our wonderful school community. At ARPS we aim to ensure regular and clear communication between home and school. We hope all our families can access all the information and updates they require to keep abreast of events, learning foci and activities via Class Dojo, Compass and this newsletter. Families are encouraged to provide constructive feedback to our staff team where further communication may be required. Parents are also welcome to request a meeting time with staff to discuss student progress at any stage throughout the year.
Year 5/6 Interschool Sports Term 2 – IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Our Year 5/6 students commence their weekly Friday interschool sports program from tomorrow – Friday 28th April. Information about the schedule and bus costs was provided to parents via Compass in the last week of Term 3. We are eager to every student to attend this weekly event. Families are urged to contact the school if they have any challenges with providing permission for student attendance to this Health and Physical Education program.
Foundation Enrolment & Transition 2024 – IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The Department of Education (DE) has released a new statewide Foundation (Prep) enrolment timeline.
The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child into Foundation (Prep) at a Victorian government primary school, including Albany Rise Primary School.
The new timeline will apply for children starting Foundation (Prep) in 2024. All government primary schools will follow the new timeline in 2023 to support Foundation (Prep) enrolments for the 2024 school year.

You can also download the ‘Foundation (Prep) Enrolment Information Pack for Parents/Carers for the 2024 school year’ from the Starting School webpage (available from 24 April 2023).

Student Voice Team
Our student voice team met for the first time this term today. Our focus for this meeting was to discuss and consider our values and actions in relation to School Wide Positive Behaviours, our student Code of Conduct and perceptions of bullying and how it is managed across the school. The discussions and input from students in the SVT were very valuable and I look forward to our next meeting and actions from this group.
Facilities upgrades:
Families may have noticed the repair works occurring over the holidays in the year 5 classrooms. We are currently have roof, floor and plaster repairs being completed to the withdrawal room through a Victorian Schools Building Authority grant project. Works are still underway with the whole project due to be completed in the next few weeks.
Our toilet upgrade project is well underway, with draft plans recently shared with the school leadership team and members of School Council. The building tender process is currently underway, and final plans will be available to share with the school community very soon.
House Athletics Carnival
Congratulations! to BRADMAN House; the team who won the Year 3-6 Athletics sports event last term. The trophy and plaque were presented to Bradman House Captains and Vice Captains on the last day for Term 1, and are now proudly returned to our awards display cabinet in the entrance foyer.
The wonderful sportsmanship, team spirit and ‘have-a-go’ attitude shown by all students on our House Athletics Day last term was inspiring to see. Congratulations to all students who took part, and a special thanks to Celia Kelsall, teachers and parents who made sure the day was such a great success.
