Konnichiwa – Hello

The focus in Japanese for the first 2 weeks is Children’s Day, or Kodomo ni hi. Children’s Day is a national holiday in Japan to celebrate the health and happiness of children. It is always celebrated on the 5th of May.

In class, we have been making colorful koi-fish. Japanese koi are symbolic of children’s day as koi are strong fish as they swim upstream.

The TEAMs activity this week will focus on Children’s Day. Children will make origami samurai helmets in TEAMs. Samurai were considered very brave and strong, parents wish for their children to grow up brave and strong like the Samurai and koi.

At assembly last week, I had the pleasure of presenting 5 Black Belt certificates. There are a few belts after the Green Belt. These belts include sound changes and combination sounds. A lot of hard work, perseverance and practice is required to achieve the Black Belt.

Congratulations to the following students on achieving your Black Belt, this is a fabulous achievement.
