Year 9 Incursion - Australians at War

On 29th May, Year 9 HSIE students will be attending  a performance, held in the Chapel, to support their current unit of work ‘Australians at War’.

The performance, entitled ‘Fighting For It’ tells the story of World War II through the eyes of Ron, who is a veteran and grandfather. The performance centres on a conversation he is having with his grandson, Boyo, who is played by the audience.

He talks of his great love Muriel, her brother, Norm and her mate Eileen. Their stories encompass the fall of Singapore and the horrors of Changi and the Burma railway, the role women played throughout World War II, the training of Australian troops and the battle of the Pacific, especially Balikpapan, and the Japanese surrender. It also explores the occupation of Hiroshima and the effects of the atomic bombing of Japan.

We are fortunate to have the Troubie Theatre visit us again, and based on past performance feedback, the students will gain further insight and understanding into this period of time, that cannot be achieved via the normal classroom setting.
