Co-Curricular STEM

STEM Co-Curricular - Term 2 - 2023
Dear BMGS Parents and Carers,
We wanted to take a moment to share with you some of the work our students have completed since the start of the year.
During this term, our students have been engaged in a range of activities that have allowed them to explore different aspects of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Specifically, they have been using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to create their digital illustrations. These designs were then used to create their coasters and key tags with the schools’ laser cutter.
Additionally, our more senior students were given the freedom to work on individual projects that reflect their interests and passions. It has been fascinating to see the wide range of projects that they have undertaken, from building a personal chess board/set, a gaming controller and a gear selector knob for a car restoration using a variety of technologies such as the schools 3D printers and CNC Router.
We are incredibly proud of our students and the hard work that they have put into this program. We believe that the skills and knowledge they have gained will serve them well in the future, regardless of what career path they choose.
As we approach the end of the term I would like to take the opportunity to inform you all of what will be happening in the STEM Co-curricular as we move into Term 2 and beyond.
Starting in Week 10 of Term 1, we have been offered an opportunity by one of the parents in the school community to participate in an introductory rocketing course.
Students in the STEM Co-curricular over several weeks will build a basic rocket that can fly up 300 meters into the air. Due to OHS reasons, we will not be launching the rockets at BMGS. Participating students and parents will be invited to a weekend rocketing expo at Whalan Reserve Blacktown on Sunday, May 28. This will not be a BMGS excursion but an invitation for students to attend to launch their rocket and witness other, larger-scale rockets be launched in a safe environment by members of the NSW Rocketing community with their parents/carers.
Once the Rocketing program has been completed, for the remaining weeks of Term 2, 2023 students will be invited to participate in the F1 In Schools CADET CLASS STEM Competition. Students who participated in the CADET CLASS previously may have an opportunity to participate in the DEVELOPMENT class.
The co-curricular runs on Wednesday afternoons between 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm and Term 2 will commence in Week 2. Students meet in AD4 and then relocate to workshops as needed.
There is a levy associated with this activity and places are strictly limited.
Please note, this STEM co-curricular is restricted to Senior School students.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We appreciate your continued support and look forward to sharing more updates with you in the future.
