Junior School

Thank you so much to the parents who came along to Parent Teacher interviews, and those who have been in touch with staff throughout the term. Our staff really value the opportunity to talk with parents about how our students are growing academically and in all areas of their well being. Thank you also to our wonderful teachers who put in extra time to speak with parents and give up their time to prioritise this.

Thank you also to the wonderful Springwood parents and children who volunteered on election day. Democracy sausages and cakes was a great fundraiser, organised by the P&F, with visitors commenting on what a lovely school we have.

There has been great excitement around our Easter hat parades at both campuses. We decided to create our masterpieces at school, together in our classes. The creativity that the children displayed during this activity was unbelievable. Thank you so much to the parent volunteers who came along and were in charge of hot glue guns! We look forward to seeing these masterpieces on display next week – Tuesday at 2:30pm for Wentworth Falls and Wednesday at 9:00am for Springwood.

I hope that parents can come along to our Easter hat parades, and also our whole school Easter service on Thursday, 6 April at 9:50am in the Sports Centre. Both Junior School campuses and the Senior School campus will join together for this celebration. Events where we all join together to celebrate God’s love for us are some of my favourite times in the year. What a lovely event to then send us off into our holidays, which I hope will be restful and restorative.

Junior School Basketball

Term 1 - Week 9

Players in our undefeated BMGS Swish team started their Semi-Final match strongly, getting ahead in points early and growing the lead slowly. However, a push back from the opposition lead to a three-point difference by half time. With the unfamiliar scoreboard pressure, the Swish began to panic. They started to throw the ball away, travel and step over the line on inbound throws. The emotional game reached its crux with six minutes left and they were down by one point. Heads dropped across the board and mistakes continued to come. The Swish suffered their first defeat. However, it was a good game and a learning experience for the young team. I am incredibly proud of what they have achieved and how they have grown throughout the season.

BMGS Raptors are at the pointy end of their season with only one week to go. With good attendance from their team members, they had the opportunity to rotate players out to give them a rest. Their games concluded with a win, a draw and a loss. They were great at getting the ball back into their half and when they played a less experienced team, they shared the ball around and it was great to see lots of the team members scored baskets.

BMGS Blue Whales took the court with no subs so it was hard work for them to maintain their speed without getting tired. They won their first game, they had a draw against the Raptors and lost their last game. They showed great determination and resilience. They had lots of opportunities at goals but unfortunately more were missed than went in. Hopefully with a bit more practice, their accuracy will improve.

The Under 10s will have their last session on Tuesday, 4th April.

Our end of season Basketball Presentation will be held in Coote Hall, which is in the Junior School at Wentworth Falls, at 3:00pm on Friday 31st March. Students need to sit with their team and bring their water bottles. There will be a light supper of pizza at the conclusion of the presentation. The event should conclude by 4:45pm.

With our season finished, it is time to return all the Basketball tops to be washed and put in a bag with your child’s name on it. The tops can be returned to the Junior School receptions. I will make sure their new tops are ready to go for the winter season.

With the April school holidays fast approaching, you may like to join in with the Scorchers for their school holiday Basketball Clinic. The clinic is worth every cent and I can assure you your child will have a great time with the coaches playing lots of fun games and developing their basketball skills. These workshops fill up quickly so be quick to register. It is on Tuesday, 11th and Wednesday, 12th April. Register using the QR code.
