Explore the Learning in Grade 5
Term 2 is an exciting time for our Grade 5 students as they will be learning and practicing a variety of skills in different subjects.
In reading, students will be learning how to use comprehension strategies to analyse and understand fiction texts. They will learn how to make predictions, visualize, make connections, ask questions, infer, and summarize what they read. These skills will be taught through a range of texts, including short stories, novels, and poetry. Additionally, students will practice their speaking and listening skills through debating, where they will learn how to research and present arguments, listen actively, and respond respectfully to others.
In writing, students will be exploring personal narratives and letter writing. They will learn how to structure and write personal narratives that capture a particular moment or experience in their lives. They will also learn how to write letters, with a focus on language, tone, and structure.
In Maths, students will be completing a hands-on project as part of their measurement unit. They will explore length, area, perimeter, volume, capacity, and mass through practical activities that involve measuring and constructing. Additionally, students will participate in fraction workshops where they will learn how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions.
In Inquiry, students will be exploring the concept of Democracy and its relevance to Australia. They will learn about the three levels of government and how they influence our lives at a federal, state, and local level. Students will also learn about the key features of democracy, including the right to vote and freedom of speech. They will explore the role of citizens in a democracy and consider the importance of being informed and active participants in their community.
Overall, Term 2 will be a busy and engaging time for our Grade 5 students as they learn and develop a range of skills across different subject areas. They will improve their comprehension, speaking and listening, writing, and mathematical abilities, while also gaining a deeper understanding of democracy and its impact on our lives.
