ATHLETICS

Junior National Athletics Championships

Congratulations to Leo (G10), for his outstanding performance at the Junior National Athletics Championship in Brisbane earlier this month. Leo participated in the heats of the 400m Hurdles and ran an impressive race, achieving a personal best time of 58.6 seconds! This remarkable feat qualified him as the 5th fastest runner for the final, with less than a second difference from the fastest qualifier.

Despite being a relatively new athlete to this event, Leo demonstrated remarkable skills and determination, running with great speed and agility. We are proud to report that he made it to the final race and gave it his all, securing an overall 7th position.

Leo's remarkable performance is even more noteworthy as he ran in Lane #1, which is widely regarded as one of the most challenging positions in a race. Overall, Leo's performance at the championship was exceptional, and he is a true inspiration to all aspiring athletes. Well done, Leo!

Max (G8), proudly represented NSW at the Australian Junior Track and Field Championships in Brisbane on April 13th, in the Men’s Under 15s 800m. He was thrilled to compete against the best from around the Nation and finished 23rd overall. Well done Max!

Australian Athletics Championships

Congratulations to Ruann (G10), for his outstanding achievements at the Australian Athletics Championships held in Brisbane during April, where he placed fourth in the competition with an impressive throw of 58.75 meters! The event was closely contested, with only 96cm separating the top four participants, making Ruann's performance even more remarkable.

Furthermore, Ruann had the privilege of receiving a one-on-one training session at the new custom-built throwing centre in Brisbane, hosted by the current World and Commonwealth Games Javelin champion, and Olympic medallist, Kelsey-Lee Barber, after being invited by QAS. This experience allowed him to gain invaluable insights into the sport and learn from one of Australia's best athletes.

Ruann's success in athletics is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and passion for the sport. Well done Ruann!

We are thrilled to share the incredible achievements of Isla (C12), who recently participated in the Australian Athletics Championships in Brisbane. At the NSW State Champs in March, Isla secured a remarkable feat by winning four gold medals. Building on that success, Isla's performance at the Australian Athletics Championships was equally impressive. Isla's outstanding performances in the U20 discus, javelin, and shot-put categories were remarkable. She not only earned a second-place finish in each of these events, but she also attained a new personal best (PB) and established a new Australian record in the shot put category for her classification.

She concluded the championship on a high note by achieving a season-best performance in the U20 long jump and securing a gold medal. In addition to her success in the U20 events, Isla also competed in the Open javelin event, alongside a Paralympian, where she finished in a commendable 6th place. Her ability to compete at such a high level, alongside seasoned athletes, speaks volumes about her skill and determination. We are incredibly proud of Isla's achievements and commend her on her exceptional performance at the Australian Championships. Well done Isla!

HIP HOP, POM and LYRICAL

ICU and IASF World Championships

During the recent break, Lexi (C10) represented the Australian Hip Hop team in the ICU World Championship in Florida. Following an impressive performance in the semi-finals, the team secured a spot in the finals and ranked 4th behind the USA, Japan, and the UK. This marked the first time an Australian Hip Hop team had advanced to the finals, leaving Lexi feeling ecstatic. Additionally, Hannah (C12) and Eiyarna (C10) joined Lexi to compete in the Pom and Lyrical events for the IASF World Championships.

ICU World Championships is organized by the Olympic committee and is based on country representation. The team hopes that the event will be included in the 2028 Olympics, which is a thrilling prospect. Lexi and her team underwent a rigorous selection process that involved auditions from all over Australia to earn a spot on the team. As the youngest member, Lexi feels honored to have made the cut, and the team comprises 24 athletes from various regions in Australia, which was no small feat to achieve.

On the other hand, the IASF Worlds is a competition where individual teams representing their schools compete for their respective countries. Only 11 Australian teams made it to the Nationals last year to compete, and they needed to secure a top-three spot in the semi-finals  to qualify for the finals. The three girls put in a lot of effort to prepare for this event, and Hannah and Eiyarna were a great source of support for Lexi throughout the week.

GYMNASITICS

NSW Gymnastics State Championships

Congratulations to Michaela (C9) for her outstanding achievement at the NSW Gymnastics State Championships earlier this month. Michaela, along with her trio partners, competed in the acrobatics level 8 Women's group and emerged as State Champions!

This remarkable feat has earned them a spot in the NSW State Team to compete at the Australian Gymnastics National Championships on the Gold Coast in May.

This will be Michaela's fourth time participating in the National Gymnastics Championships as part of the NSW Acrobatics States team, which is a testament to her exceptional skills and dedication to the sport. We are proud of Michaela's outstanding performance and wish her and the team all the very best for their upcoming competition.

Well done, Michaela!

We are excited to share with you the recent success of one of our talented students, Zoë (C10). Zoë recently competed in the Gymnastics NSW State Championships and achieved outstanding results. She won the NSW Level 8 Senior Floor Champion title and secured the Bronze medal for Beam.

It is worth mentioning that Zoë has been selected twice for the NSW state team.

Unfortunately, this year she was unable to compete in all apparatus due to an elbow injury that she sustained last year. However, with her coach's unwavering support and her own determination to keep competing, Zoë was able to adapt her floor and beam routines to accommodate her injury.

We are proud of Zoë's perseverance and hard work, which have led to her well-deserved victory.

Please join us in congratulating Zoë on her impressive achievements

Congratulations to Zara W (C8) and her Northern Tigers rep team on winning the Girls U14 Cup at the JSSL Professional Academy International Soccer Tournament in Singapore. Zara played an age group up and was a key contributor to their victory in this highly competitive tournament.

The JSSL Singapore Professional Academy 7's is a prestigious tournament that attracts teams from around the world, including Australia, Japan, Korea, South East Asia, and Europe. Over 4000 players competed in this year's tournament, making Zara and her team's victory all the more impressive.

Playing against international teams with different styles of play was an invaluable experience for Zara and undoubtedly helped her development as a player.

Special recognition should also be given to Dwight Yorke, ex-Manchester United player, who presented the trophy and medals to Zara's team. His presence and recognition undoubtedly made this a memorable experience for Zara and her team. Zara's success in this tournament is a testament to her hard work, skill, and dedication to her sport. We are proud of her achievements and look forward to seeing her continued growth and success both on and off the field. Congratulations again to Zara and her team on their impressive victory!
