CHILD SAFETY

Keeping your children safe

Most crimes against children are not committed by a stranger but by someone they know. It is important to teach your child how to recognise suspicious behaviour – from both strangers and people they know – and what to do about it.

Protective behaviour for children

Parents are often worried about ‘stranger danger’. But this is only a small part of keeping children safe from people who want to hurt them. More than 8 in 10 crimes against children are committed by someone they know, even relatives or friends. There are also dangers online.

WELLBEING RESOURCES

We know that it can sometimes be hard to find the necessary resources in relation to mental health, bullying and family violence, especially when things are tough. For this reason, the School has a small webpage with links related to health and wellbeing resources. This can be found on the School's website under Other Resources or can be found here.

ISV: THE PARENTS WEBSITE

Belgrave Heights Christian School is part of the Independent Schools Victoria network of schools. Independent Schools Victoria offers an initiative called The Parents Website.  Here you will find a range of articles and newsletters.  To learn more, please click here.

CYBERSAFETY

Internet Safety for children 9-11 years

  • Pre-teens tend to use the internet independently. They can come across more risks than younger children.
  • Internet safety risks for pre-teens include content, contact, conduct and contract risks.
  • Help pre-teens manage internet safety risks by role-modelling and talking with them about online content and activities.
  • If you take an interest in pre-teen online activities, it builds trust and encourages pre-teens to talk about online worries.
