Year 10 Summit Camp -

The Experience

By Georgie Armstrong (Year 10 Team Leader)

When you all arrived on the 3rd of April, you were so excited to get started! You had a little bit of a different camp ahead of you – your program was written as a two-day intensive camp, which meant things were about to get a little hectic.

You went straight from a welcome, where you learned the Five Keys of camp:

1. Have Fun

2. Play All In

3. Make Lots of Mistakes

4. Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable

5. Don’t Go Home Wondering What If

You also learned how to set really epic goals using our ‘Target, Stretch and Super Stretch’ strategy, and got stuck into your activities straight away! We did a whopping 3 hours of activities and our epic mud run – The Monster Course.

Your activities and the way they were structured were designed to help you unleash your greatness and sometimes that meant you’d have to be working as a team, pushing each other to go faster and come together as one unit. The solo activities hopefully helped you unleash your greatness by asking you to challenge some beliefs you had about some potential fears – like for example maybe some of you began the journey of overcoming your fear of heights. Maybe you’re not all that chuffed on tight spaces – maybe that was your challenge or maybe it was to actually touch a snake or walk across nails! Whichever challenge resonated with you, we hope that each activity at the very least brought some fun into your day.

And then, after you tried your first three activities it was time for the epic, long-awaited Monster Course! You got absolutely filthy, you had so much fun and you pushed yourselves as hard as you could! You got an awesome time for your first lap, but then your coaches had broken it to you that throughout all of camp, you were pushing you to be incredible humans and doing things you never thought you could’ve done before, so off you went again! You did a second lap and it was so epic, you pushed your boundaries yet again. You worked incredibly as a team, you worked out how you could be a little faster in places but above all, you looked out for and supported each other the best you could and the results were awesome!

On Tuesday you got to experience the last two activities you hadn’t tried yet and then it was onto three new activities! The activities the day before had definitely worked you up to finishing camp with a bang! So as we wrapped it up, we asked you to vote for one person from your group that stuck to the Five Keys the most throughout camp and they got the incredible opportunity to go for a hot lap in our WW2 army tank! The people you voted for were:

·        Toby

·        Ebony

·        April

·        Cody

·        Felicity

We trust you had an awesome time and we thank you for all your contributions. Extended thanks also goes to our awesome Yr10 Team: Mr McDowell, Mr De Kretser, Mr Lobbe, Mrs Simmons, Miss D’Monte and Miss Davidson. We had such a wonderful time with you all.
