9 OUTDOOR EDUCATION TACKLES WILSONS PROM

By Paul Lewry (Head of Middle School)

What a great couple of days we had at Wilsons Prom. The Year 9 Outdoor Education students headed out for three days to build upon the skills learnt on our Two Bays Hike last term. Students needed to be self-sufficient with food, water and all the necessities to survive the weather and the distance covered on foot.

We covered just over 30kms witnessing some great scenery including sunset from Mt Bishop, the three bays and a night walk under the bright moon towards Oberon Bay. On the final night we bunkered down to experience the turbulent weather Wilsons Prom has to offer with amazing amounts of rain and 60+ km an hour winds. The students were amazing! Pushing through and working together as a group to manage the campsite and program. I am super proud of their growth and leadership. Well done team!

LEST WE FORGET

By Andrew Ware (VCE Vocational Major & VET Coordinator)

We held our annual ANZAC Day service on Thursday 27th April. It was good to pause again as a whole school to commemorate all those who have served and sacrificed for Australia. It was wonderful to see all our students from Prep to Year 12 acknowledge those who have given so much for our country.

2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the withdrawal of Australian troops from the Vietnam War, and so we took the opportunity this year to pay particular respect to veterans from that conflict. A particularly touching moment was the chance to commemorate those Vietnam veterans who are linked to the BHCS community - with video messages from our Senior School Leaders and poppies being laid by our Preps and Year 1s.

Many thanks to those who contributed to the service, and a very special thank you to Joy McGrath who put so much work into the preparations for the service - she continues to serve our community this way, even in retirement.

NEW SHADE STRUCTURE COMPLETE

Construction of our new shade structure over the middle school courts was completed over the term break.  It is a significant structure and cost $715,000 to construct and install. The shade structure will provide our students with great protection from the weather as they participate in sports activities on the courts. The structure has been designed to 'overhang' the courts to provide sheltered seating areas for students. The structure is also fitted with lights. The existing synthetic grass courts will be replaced in Term 4 with a brand new hard court surface. At this time we will also be installing new basketball backboards for the courts.
