Sapphire Community

What has been your favourite memory of Term 1?

Corben- I really enjoyed our Harmony Day activity where we got to draw our names on an orange piece of fabric. Orange is the colour of Harmony Day. It’s a day where we celebrate the different cultures at our school.

Siri- I liked dressing up for Anti-Bullying day. I wore a spotty dress with stripe pants. My message to bullies is you are not welcome at TSPS.

Naz-I’m really happy that Monique has come back into our community. She went on a holiday to Brazil. I like that she is funny and kind.

Laaibah- I loved the day that Sapphire got to go outside to do an obstacle course. My favourite part was the sack race. We used this experience to write a recount. I called my one ‘The Sapphire Obstacle Course’.

Mohtashim- I really liked a game that we played in School Wide Positive Behaviours. It was called ‘Anyone who has…’ and you had to sit on a chair in a circle before there were no chairs left. It showed me how people are different. It was really fun.

Muhammad- My favourite time was when we made a nice note for somebody in the community and put the kind note in their locker. We did this to show the FISH philosophy of ‘Make their Day.’

In Sarah’s writing group Keira, Panav, Azayleus, Holly H, Laaibah and Angelina are writing an exposition to members of parliament to oppose the construction of an oil rig in the Great Australian Bight. The group of students have been reading newspaper articles to collect information about the negative effects this could have on the environment.  They will use the information they have discovered to form evidence supporting their arguments. These environmentalists are very concerned about a possible oil spill if there were to be an accident just like the one in Mexico during 2010. These students are eager to send their expositions as letters in the mail and hope their expositions persuade the Australian parliament members to reject the construction of the oil rig.
