Year 9 Italian

Italian Excursion to Fremantle

The Year 9 Italian course traditionally finishes with an end-of-year cultural excursion to Fremantle, a city with a strong Italian heritage and culture.

Our excursion included a visit to the Welcome Walls, the Maritime museum (which featured an “Ancient Rome” display), the “Cappuccino strip”, and of course our authentic Italian lunch at Capri restaurant, followed by “un bel gelato”. Here students put into practise their language skills to order their preferred pasta dish and ice cream flavour.

For the past two years, Dr Runco has been accompanying the group and has added an extra HASS dimension to the excursion, informing students of the history of Fremantle, its port and surrounding heritage buildings, the past whaling industry and of famous West Australians such as CY O’Connor and John Curtin. Grazie to Dr Runco for your assistance.

Wishing all students of Italian and their families “Buon Natale e Felice Anno Nuovo”!

Ms D Tersigni (Italian Teacher)

“Our experience at Fremantle is one  that we will look back on with fondness.

We started the day with a train trip to Fremantle, which took a very long time but was still enjoyable due to the presence of our peers.

The highlights of our day were the museum, where a few of us dressed up as Gods from ancient Rome; going into a fairy store and trying on fairy fits; the delicious Italian food and gelato and lastly our small trip to the City Beach store where we all tried on bucket hats.

Not to mention Dr Runco's history lessons on Fremantle throughout the day. We thank both Ms Tersigni and Dr Runco for allowing us to go on this excursion where we had heaps of fun”.
