Faith and Wellbeing Assistant Principal's Report

Reflection Days
On 22 July 2019 the Year 11 students attended their Reflection Day led by Real Talk looking at life, love and relationships. The presenters were fantastic and the students really engaged. The Real Talk team opened our students to see a different perspective on life, relationships and love, a perspective that is not shown in the popular media, movies or digital media. The students were challenged to think critically and to reflect on these most important topics. As a Catholic Community we are so blessed to be guided by the wisdom of the Church’s teachings and the students had their eyes opened through honest sharing to the richness and beauty of this message.
On Friday 26 July 2019 the Youth Mission Team came and led our Year 9 students on a Self Esteem Reflection Day. The students were surveyed at the at the end of the day and we received the following information:
- 92% enjoyed the day;
- 79% felt the program helped them to value themselves more positively;
- 86% felt challenged to be more accepting of others;
- 83% felt the themes were relevant to them;
- 82% felt the program impacted how they see God and said they were more open to God’s friendship as a result.
We were very grateful for the Youth Mission Team for their fantastic efforts with our students and we were very proud of the way our Year 9 students entered into the day. For both the Year 9 and 11 Reflection Days the presenters were touched by our students and I feel our students were also touched by the day.
Looking ahead, the Year 10 Reflection Day is coming up on Tuesday 13 August 2019. The focus of this day will be Social Justice and promises also to be a great and informative day for the Year 10 students.
Feast of the Assumption
On Thursday 15 August 2019 the College Community will gather to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin with a whole school Mass at 10.15 am in the Wheeler Auditorium. This is one of two Holy Days of Obligation in the Church (the other day being Christmas Day) and we are blessed to be able to celebrate the day with Mass together. Parents and family members are most welcome to attend.
St Anthony's Noble Park Tutoring
Over the last two weeks students from our St Vincent de Paul College Conference have been tutoring students at St Anthony’s Primary School in Noble Park. The young St Anthony’s students have really enjoyed the assistance and have been very, very happy upon our arrival. It has been a great experience of service – living out our faith for our students and also a very enjoyable one for them also. We will continue this throughout the term. Any students interested in attending are most welcome to come and serve with the St Vincent de Paul students.
