Art Show News

Wheelers Hill Primary School Art Show 2019

I feel very proud, excited and humbled to report that many months of planning and preparation has culminated in a highly successful and extremely well attended WHPS Art Show recently held on Thursday 12th September. Our gymnasium was transformed into a spectacular, colourful visual feast as students’ precious artwork was displayed in various forms throughout, representing “Art from Around the World”. The beautiful and harmonious voices of our choir set the scene, welcoming those guests arriving and the instrumental pieces that had been so studiously rehearsed finally came to fruition, delighting everyone in attendance.

Students and visitors scurrying around intently searching for clues for the Passport competition held on the night was fantastic to see and it was commented upon several times that students at our school are always so highly engaged. The Winners, Runners Up and Honourable Mentions for our very well subscribed Student Art Competition were excitedly received and I thank the many students for wholeheartedly embracing this competition in the months leading up to the evening- your enthusiasm is  testament to the way you approach all your learning here at Wheelers Hill.

Enthusiastic and vigorous bidding for the highly prized class canvases intensified the atmosphere in the gym. On that note, I would like to profusely thank our wonderful sponsors and parent donors who have so generously supported this major community event.

Wheelers Hill Primary school boasts an incredibly strong and supportive parent community and I thank you all for coming to support our students on the evening. In addition to this, l thankfully acknowledge those parents who contributed many hours of extra work behind the scenes both prior to and on the evening- without your help, the night would certainly not have run as smoothly. I give thanks to the amazing staff at our wonderful school- energetic, passionate and committed educators who are always happy to go the “extra mile” to ensure our students enjoy diverse and innovative programs. I am heavily indebted to all staff- both teaching and administrative for their support, good humour and tireless assistance whenever required, with special mention of Mrs Michele Wykes, art teacher extraordinaire, for her support with the planning for the Art Show, enthusiasm for all aspects of the Art Program and for assistance with all things required in the Art Show week. A special thanks also to the lovely Mrs. Furlong for her advice and support.

The visual Arts program at WHPS is critical as it allows our students an opportunity not only to explore the world around them but to represent this world through a creative lens. By celebrating and showcasing the work of our students at an event as special as the Art Show, we are reinforcing that we value their creativity and importantly, that we value their effort and endeavour. I have been overwhelmed by the high standard of art pieces and absolutely delighted by the enthusiasm of each and every student as they’ve embraced the challenge of creating their special piece of artwork for our show. I take this opportunity to thank each and every student for the outstanding way they have approached this significant community event on the WHPS calendar- you have done your parents, teachers and of course your ART teachers very proud!
