From the Principal

Founders Time

The first five weeks of term has seen a flurry of activities with last week’s John XXIII Day a highlight for students and staff. A beautiful Mass was complemented by homeroom and classroom activities with our senior students also engaged in netball and AFL fixtures against Alumni. Our day concluded with a very professional concert showcasing the talents of our students and staff. The support and encouragement from the audience was outstanding and indicative of superb spirit amongst our pupils.

During our Mass, short video clips were shown highlighting the excellent work of Loreto and Jesuit Ministries. It was important to show our students that funds raised on John XXIII Day would provide valuable assistance to the international work done by these Ministries.

John XXIII Day concluded with an afternoon tea for current and former staff. Seventy former staff members, including Principal Mr Greg Clune (1994-2005), joined our existing staff for a wonderful event. I have spoken to each of my six predecessors this year as we honour the past and look forward to the future in our 40th year. I know Mrs Anne Fry would have loved to have joined us last week but commitments at her Sydney school precluded her attendance.

Over the past few weeks I have often mentioned to our community the importance of ‘telling the stories of the past’. It helps keep the John XXIII, Loreto and Jesuit stories alive and vibrant at our College.

Survey Instrument

In the coming week, I will be meeting with the Consultancy Group that conducted our comprehensive survey of students, staff and parents. I have seen a draft of the final report and it will provide excellent data for future strategic planning purposes. I look forward to elaborating in due course.
