Year 12 VCAL

Structured Workplace Learning

Structured Workplace Learning

Congratulations to the Year 12 VCAL students who undertook their first compulsory placement of Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) during May 2021.

Here is just a snapshot of the 46 Year 12 VCAL students who undertook a two-week Structured Workplace Learning experience as a part of their required VCAL studies for this year. Young people need to have the opportunity to develop their ‘employability and work readiness skills’. There is no better way to do this than by having direct on the job work location experience, in the role of an employee and experiencing the working climate at a local company.

Taylors Lakes Secondary College really appreciates the partnerships that we have in our local community such as retail and hardware chains, small businesses, and hospitality industries.  Added to this there were so many businesses and trade industries that have come on board to assist our students.

Here are just some of the Businesses, Trade Industries and Organisations that students have sourced by themselves to gain their experience:  Ray White Real Estate, PST Chippy Bros, City Corp Plumbing & Maintenance Services, GMA Fitness Academy, McLean Water Works, Vinage Customs Sign shop, Titanium Carpentry, KMX Building & Construction, NJT Carpentry, Terry White Chemmart, Eletech Solutions, Swarve Constructions; Vinnies. St Vincent De Paul (Sunbury and Sth Geelong), Plumsure  Plumbing; Monmia Kindergarten; ENDOTA Day Spa, Lakes Plumbing Services; Tint District; CUBECON Construction; Fraser Rise Construction; Premium Precast; BSB plumbing; Remodel Melbourne; Remus Way Children's Centre; Poynton’s Nursery; Guardian Childcare & Education; J&A Plumbing & Drainage Plumbers & Gas Fitters; AQUATEK Pools & Spa; Hillside Cottage Early Learning & Kindergarten; A C Galea Plumbing; Taylors Lakes Primary School; Mizuno Corporation Australia; WCIG Community Services & Disability.

Please note that businesses are still trying to get back on board since COVID -2020. Therefore, many businesses are still working from home or places like Aged Care and Hospitals, Victoria Police and Armed Forces are still not taking students in Work Experience and Structured Workplace Programs.

What comes next: Year 11 VCAL students will be undertaking their first Structured Workplace Learning block starting from Tuesday 15th June through to June 25th. We wish them all the best for their Structured Workplace Learning experience.  Year 12 VCAL students will undertake their final block for the year during early August.
