Principal's Message

This final week of Semester 1, will see our students receive feedback through their reports on how they have progressed so far this year and what areas they can work on in order to continue to improve.

We really encourage parents and caregivers to discuss this feedback with their youngsters and to contact their teachers or the school if there are any areas that are of concern or that would help us in supporting your child. I must admit that after reading through the reports for this semester, that the vast majority of our students have made excellent progress!

Following a survey and discussions with students, staff and P&C, we are looking for community feedback concerning possible adjustments to the uniform. These adjustments are to accommodate male and female fits, long polo shirts and navy colour for skirt, shorts and pants.  We are making sure that we have considered a modern and professional look for the school while keeping adjustments and costs to a minimum. Possible uniform updates are in our online survey which is in this newsletter and we invite parents/guardians to take the time to respond to this survey. This survey will close by the beginning of Term 3.

Congratulations to all of our wonderful students who have taken advantage of all the extra-curricular activities that Lake Illawarra High have offered this semester, whether it be in Leadership, Sport, the Arts, Cultural….the list goes on. Have a great holiday, keep safe and we look forward to seeing you all again at the start of term 3.

From the Deputies' Desk

With Term 2 coming to end, I would like to thank all our students and staff for their efforts in what has, again, been an action-packed term.

During Week 6, we as a school celebrated National Reconciliation Week, which is a chance for all Australians to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultures. Reconciliation Australia’s theme for 2021, More than a word. Reconciliation takes action, urges the reconciliation movement towards braver and more impactful action. Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families, communities, organisations and, importantly, as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Lake Illawarra High School students led our Reconciliation Week celebrations, speaking at an assembly for the school community to provide an opportunity for students to learn and reflect on the vibrancy of Aboriginal culture, the struggles faced, and the role we all play in the journey ahead. I would like to thank Ms Robinson and her support team for all their efforts in organising such an important event.

During Week 7, many of our students were lucky enough to be selected for our school athletics team, who went on to compete at the Zone Athletic Championships. Thank you to all those who attended and represented us with pride and thank you again to Ms Hartas for organising our team. I would also like to wish Ms Hartas all the best as she begins her maternity leave, she is an absolute asset here at the school and she will be missed. We look forward to having her back, but as a new mum!

Finally, last week we inducted our new student leadership team, with students being instated into the Sports Committee, coordinated by Mr Carrett, and our SRC, coordinated by Mrs Payne and Ms Robinson I would like to thank Mrs Payne and Ms Robinson in particular for organising the assembly, and congratulate our new School Captains, Alyish Mitchell and Andre Tauteka, and Vice-Captains, Jacinta Bazzano and Raquel Withers, on their successful nominations. I know that you will all do a great job in leading the student body!

As always, if you have any questions related to what s happening at Lake, please dont hesitate to contact myself or Mr Meizer.
