12B VCAL

18 students from Melton Specialist School visited us on Tuesday, 11 May and were taken on a school tour by the Senior VCAL students from 12B. The tour was mapped, planned, organised and carried out by the students and received fantastic feedback from the participating students and staff from both schools. Since then, Ms Chatterton's and Mr Sakarellos’ Yr12 Senior VCAL have organised similar events, taking students from Melton Specialist on a tour around Melton Secondary including showcasing the front office, REC, library, canteen, woodwork rooms, SL building and courtyards. A big thank you to those staff who gave up their time and effort to assist us. Sian, Ursula, John and Sherie.

Sherie has raised interest in students from Melton Specialist visiting our library on a semi regular basis to borrow books. Both schools are currently working on the logistics.

As well as bringing students over to Melton Secondary, our Yr12 Senior VCAL students are visiting MSS to participate in Peer Mentoring. Students are paired up and under the care of MSC, MSS teachers and EAs, assist MSS students in their day to day schooling work. To date, this has been an excellent success, with students from both schools benefiting both socially and academically.

The program is scheduled to continue throughout Term 2. We hope to schedule further visits throughout the year and continue the community relationship for years to come.
