Senior School News

Senior School

We have been running assemblies with our Senior School students to discuss the upcoming exam period. The Year 12 students should be using the mid year practice exams as a chance to see where their understanding is at for the Unit 3 content. For the Year 10 and 11 students the exams are an opportunity to experience the exam setting. Exam results make up a really significant portion of the ATAR for graduating Year 12 students each year, so it is important that students get to practice and develop their exam technique through their years in the senior school. Exam results are also used for student recommendations for subject selections.

The General Achievement Test (GAT) will be run on June 9th beginning at 10am for all students studying at least 1 Year 12 subject. Students will need to arrive at school before 9.30am as it will take a long time to get all students into the exam room.

As we near the end of term 2, VCE students will be getting closer to the end of Unit 1 and 3 classes. It is important for students to be prepared for the numerous SACs and other assessments coming up. This is a very busy time for all VCE students and it is important to keep up to date.

Year 11 News

As it is every year, Term 2 has been a busy one for our Year 11 cohort. With the upcoming weeks filled with SACs and then mid-year exams, it will give students a great opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned so far this year.

It is really important over the coming weeks that students seek out their teachers if they need extra support with their understanding and skills, whether in class, at Homework Help (Tuesdays and Wednesdays afterschool in the library) or one on one outside of class time. Teachers are here to support students to achieve their best possible outcomes. Please refer to Mr Micallef’s article for further information about the mid-year exams.

Can students and families please ensure that the correct GEC uniform is worn at all times. In the past winter has been a challenge in this area so it is important that we all do our part to respect the uniform rules of the college.

As always, if there are any concerns about students' wellbeing, academic performance, or other school-related issues, please feel free to contact me at the college.

Year 12 News

A few reminders to all Year 12 parents and students:

If a scheduled SAC and makeup SAC is missed a medical certificate is required upon the student’s return to school in order for the SAC to be completed to obtain a score.  For redemption SACs if there is no medical certificate, students are at risk of not meeting the outcome and therefore not passing the subject.

The school term is getting busier with SACs, the GAT and end of unit 3 exams, so it is extremely important that students are preparing themselves for these events.  Part of the preparation is about looking after their physical and mental health.  To assist students with their overall health and improve their study habits the wellbeing team have been conducting lifestyle checks.

If your son/daughter has any ongoing issues, which inhibits their learning, then I encourage you to discuss these with Mr Micallef or myself. This is extremely important as during Term 3 students will be applying for 2022 tertiary courses and they may need supporting documentation from us.

Please do not hesitate to contact me on 9571 7838 with any concerns that you may have.
