Law Talk

On Thursday 20th May we had an exciting and incredible opportunity to have former Magistrate and County Court Judge, Jane Patrick, come talk to our Year 11 legal class. Jane was an admirable and inspiring role model. With her great sense of humour and approachable personality she talked us through her role as a former Magistrate and Judge. She provided an insightful description of her role as a past judge and the processes and procedures that the job entails.

Throughout the incursion, Jane touched base on many topics such as committal proceedings, the right to appeal and the Judge’s role in directing the jury, listening to evidence and appropriate sentencing. It was a fantastic and fortunate opportunity for the class to ask questions and learn more about the Australian Legal System. The class was lucky enough to be able to see the traditional attire of a Judge as Jane brought in her own gown, jabot and wig. Jane also provided multiple photos of the courtroom as well as statistics which was very engaging for the class.

We are so grateful to have had such an encouraging person to come and speak to our class and tell us that there are multiple pathways to get where you want in life!

Netball Tournament

And just like that, the Netball Tournament comes to a close. It was the Parminder Byrnes’ against the Staffers for a thrilling Grand Final. Last time they met there was only 1 goal that separated them so it was anyone's game who would come out on top.

With many positional changes throughout the game, Jamie Heaton was a stand out in defence matching up against the Staffers lead scorer for the match, Mr Mulligan. Another key matchup was between Mr Lake and Matilda McIntyre. While Matilda was sinking goals from all around the circle, Mr Lake also proved himself to be a wall in defence.

After two halves of intense netball the Staffers came out on top by 4 goals.

Well done to both teams and thank you all for your support in making this tournament a success!!

You are all STARS!

First ISP Parent Meeting

After several lockdowns from last year to the beginning of this year, we could finally invite parents to participate in activities on campus. The school convened a meeting with some of our international students’ parents on Friday 21st May. Thank you to the parents who attended for their enthusiastic participation.

At the meeting the Principal, Mrs Kindler, welcomed all parents and thanked them for their support for our school community and encouraged our international student’s parents to take part in our Parent Association.  The Assistant Principal, Mr Hamer-Smith, showed parents how to make full use of XUNO to strengthen the communication and exchanges between parents and the school and to follow up their child's academic progress and welfare in the school.

The EAL teacher, Ms Fisher, outlined some learning skills that parents could use to help their children with their English learning at home. She suggested that parents assist their children to develop good reading habits, even reading articles in their first language will have a good effect on the acquisition of the second language. She also suggested that parents follow up with their children’s Planner in time to understand their children’s learning and life in school every day.

The International Student Coordinator, Tara Fang, suggests that parents encourage their children to participate more in the school’s clubs and lunchtime activities, and create more opportunities for communication with other students. It is recommended that students participate in homework tutoring after school every Tuesday and Wednesday in the school library.

We invite parents to interact more with the school community and jointly promote the healthy growth of their children.
