Year 12 Geography Fieldtrip

Learning How To Sustainably Manage Our Forest Resources

Unit 3 Geography focuses on Land Cover Change processes, including deforestation. Fieldwork is integral to learning Geography. Unit 3 Geography students visited Powelltown to enhance their understanding about sustainable resource management.

Joseph Folwell shares his experience:

The Year 12 Geography class just finished a unit on Deforestation. We have spent the past few weeks learning about its impacts and what can be done to help the environment we live in. On Thursday 20th May, we were lucky enough to be able to visit Powelltown in Victoria. We all woke up super early, got on the bus and drove two hours to the town. Upon arrival, we were greeted by two men from VicForests, who shared their experience and gave us a little insight into what they do. Following this, we visited one of many coupes up in Powelltown and got to see firsthand how harvesting is so beneficial for our forests, and the sustainable aspects to it. We then visited the local mill, where the logs are converted into local timber ready for distribution. We all had an amazing time up in Powelltown, and would love to go back in the future to see how nature is constantly changing. A massive thank you to Mr Chiumello and Ms Gatt for accompanying us on the excursion. Enjoy some photos from the day.
