Message From Our

Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

On Friday, we will celebrate the Feast of the Sacred. This special Feast Day reminds us of Christ’s great love for us all. The heart is the centre of a person, the place from where choices are made, choices which affect those around them. No matter who Jesus met, the poor, sick, the troubled, those of different race, he always showed a great love and compassion towards them. As a Sacred Heart community, we strive to be more like Jesus, loving those we meet every day.  It means showing tolerance, forgiving, sharing what we have with those who don’t, helping others when they need it most. Being inspired by Christ.

The Feast of the Sacred Heart is usually celebrated with our parish at Mass but this is not possible this week. The children will gather for a Liturgy to reflect on the school’s patron saint and then participate in tabloid sports, run by Year 6 Leaders. During the afternoon the school choir and Rock Band will entertain us. There will be no Assembly. Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions we are unable to have visitors on site for our celebrations but will share photos etc. of the day as best we can.

During the Liturgy, our Mini Vinnies will be commissioned and our Winter Appeal will be launched.  The role of the Mini Vinnies at Sacred Heart is central to our Mercy Charism. Members of this team are advocates for social justice and promote and action this in our school. They will be leading our annual Winter Appeal, asking us to help those in need with much-appreciated donated items going to St Vinnies’s. They will then share them with those in our own community.

Our Sacramental children who had been preparing for their Sacrament of First Reconciliation had their special evening postponed last week. Jessie Simpson and Fr John Paul are making alternative arrangements to ensure this goes ahead. Families will be notified as soon as possible regarding the updates.

Unfortunately, the Festival of the Sacred has been cancelled.  While the Year 5/6 and Mrs Nihill felt the disappointment of not being able to perform to the wider audience, the preparation has nevertheless been a wonderful experience for all. The engagement, confidence building and enjoyment of the Year 5/6 during the ASPA sessions has been evident.   It is our hope that their performance will take place at a school level depending on further operation guidelines. We will keep you updated.

I understand the disappointment so many of these events have brought to you and your children. Thank you for your understanding and support as we all try to keep each other safe and healthy during these difficult times. I particularly thank the children for their resilience and good spirits when these changes are announced. They are a real credit to their families.

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus continue to watch over our school community and bless us always.
