This year we again would like to focus on the appeal during a short time frame. Our overall aim would be for each student to bring an item every one or two days! Our Mini Vinnies team members will be visiting classrooms next week to discuss the appeal and what students can do to be involved.

When donating, please ensure each item has an appropriate expiry date and is non-perishable.

There will be a basket in each classroom for students to place their item in each morning.

The following suggestions for each class are a guide, though any suitable donations are welcomed.

Our Mini Vinnies team will take all donated goods to our local St Vincent De Paul Centre in Week 10.

Sacred Heart Mini Vinnies

We remember divine love and compassion of the heart of Jesus towards all humanity. Our parish and school, which were developed in the late 19th Century, are dedicated in the praise and honour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We look forward to welcoming Father John Paul to lead us in this, and commissioning our Mini Vinnie students. This will also be the launch of our Winter Appeal.

We apologise parents are unable to join us for Feast Day.

Children will then participate in a FUN day of Tabloid sports ran by our wonderful 5/6s.

To end this spectacular Feast Day we have our awesome ROCK BAND and Choir!

We are very excited to celebrate our school.

Option 2: Church restrictions rise to 100

One Mass: 5.30 pm Liturgy with ONE parent

Dear Families,

Thank you for your patience and co-operation on these dates. I have been very appreciative of your flexibility and understanding during these times. It is unfortunate circumstances we find ourselves postponing and rescheduling, it is disheartening on all parties. Due to Fr John Paul’s commitments, and availability of other assisting priests this was one of the only outcomes available to us.

It will be a small and intimate Liturgy, staff are not able to attend due to number capacities; Staff present will be Pauline Hindson and Jessie Simpson.

Thank you for your feedback from my previous email; the outcome we have reached has best suited everyone’s wishes.

The Gospel story

In today’s story, Jesus is explaining what the kingdom of God is like.

Jesus says the kingdom of God is like a small, small seed growing into a very large tree.

From little things, big things grow.

A small thing like a smile can bring joy and friendship to someone who is sad.

When these small, kind actions spread throughout the world, God’s kingdom grows!

The Gospel

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark 4:26-34

The mustard seed, the smallest of all the seeds, grows into the biggest shrub of all.

Jesus said: "What is God's kingdom like?

What story can I use to explain it?

It is like what happens when a mustard seed is planted in the ground.

It is the smallest seed in all the world.

But once it is planted,

it grows larger than any garden plant.

It even puts out branches that are big enough for birds to nest in its shade."

Jesus used many other stories when he spoke to the people,

and he taught them as much as they could understand.

He did not tell them anything without using stories.

But when he was alone with his disciples,

he explained everything to them.

The Gospel of the Lord.

In the story today, we heard about the way a tree grows from a tiny seed.

People start as small babies and grow into adults.

Invite children to name some ways they have grown as well as some ways in which they would like to 'grow'.

Preparing to hear God's word

Can you remember the last time there was a storm?

Imagine if you were on a boat in the middle of a lake in the middle of a storm.

Imagine what it would be like to feel the wind blowing and the waves crashing against the boat.

The Gospel Story

Today’s Gospel is a great rescue story! The disciples were caught in a storm and Jesus saved them.

Jesus told the wind and the waves to be still and they obeyed immediately.

Jesus wondered why the disciples had been so afraid and he told them to have faith.

Who can this be? Even the wind and the sea obey him.

Jesus said to his disciples, "Let's cross to the east side."

So they left the crowd, and his disciples started across the lake with him in the boat.

Some other boats followed along. Suddenly a windstorm struck the lake.

Waves started splashing into the boat, and it was about to sink.

Jesus was in the back of the boat with his head on a pillow, and he was asleep.

His disciples woke him and said, "Teacher, don't you care that we're about to drown?"

Jesus got up and ordered the wind and the waves to be quiet.

The wind stopped, and everything was calm.

Jesus asked his disciples, "Why were you afraid? Don't you have any faith?"

Now they were more afraid than ever and said to each other,

"Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!"

The Gospel of the Lord.
