Warrandyte High Visit – reporting from the Middle School News reporters –

Zoe & Summer

On Tuesday the 18th of May, 17 Warrandyte High students visited our school. It was such an honour to have so many students to teach us shot-put and long jump to help prepare us for athletics.

At the start of the day, 3/4R and 3/4N made their way to the multi. Sally made a friendly welcoming and the Warrandyte High P.E teacher, Katie, introduced her students to us. Then the group of students split Forbes and Yarra into one group, Brackenburry and Anderson into the other.

Next, we had to do a fun warm up. The game we played was octopus. After that Brackenburry and Anderson started learning shot put in the 3/4 playground. They told us to put our right foot back if we were right-handed and put the shot put on our necks. From there we put our elbow back, pointed to where we wanted it to land and pushed it forward. We started by practicing with light balls and slowly built up to a real shot-put. After, our practice, we did some competitions with who could through the furthest shot-put, it was real FUN.

Forbes and Yarra soon finished octopus and then we started to do stretches. After, we got told to get with a partner and relax. Our partner would push us, and we would put a foot in front of ourselves and that would be our take off leg for long jump. Then we made our way to the long jump pit, and we did a couple of warmups. We were taught to run, then jump on your take off leg without crossing the line and land with two feet. If you are going to fall, fall forward not backwards, a tip from the high school students! Then we had two competitions and a grade 4 girl, Sonia, won both.
