Breaksea House News

The term is moving along quickly in Breaksea and Winter sports are definitely keeping the girls busy. Each morning and afternoon we have girls moving off to rowing, hockey, soccer, netball and volleyball training. They are showing great dedication to their teams and excitement for Country Week is definitely growing. It’s wonderful to see how many girls are also volunteering to coach or umpire sporting teams.

The Winter season is upon us and with this comes the colds and coughs. We are still under COVID Phase 4 restrictions which mean that students are asked the four COVID questions each day. Unfortunately, if they have a sore throat, cold symptoms, cough or temperature they are required to have a COVID test and must stay away from school until a negative result is returned. Whilst it is encouraging how many Breaksea girls want to stay at school attending classes, it is important that they are honest with us and let us know as soon as symptoms develop, otherwise colds are definitely shared around.

We have enjoyed some birthdays in Breaksea throughout May with various cakes of the girl’s choosing. Happy Birthday to Jasmine Butterworth, Kira Pearce and Elisa Crook.

In our morning and evening roll call times, we have been discussing ways in which we can show gratitude to others and encouragement. In the mornings, girls have been offering an encouraging word for the day or speaking of what they have been thankful for. We have also discussed various ways of becoming more organised in study and life and thinking of goals for the year and their future. I’ve been greatly encouraged by seeing more students seeking assistance with their studies and supporting each other with their learning.

The piles of lost property in Breaksea has grown dramatically throughout this term. We laid it all out for girls to claim and still we have a large bag of unnamed items to go to charity this weekend. Could you please encourage your students to name all clothes they bring to boarding?

Finally, we are all thankful for a long weekend. Between the netball and hockey carnivals this weekend, I hope you all get some valuable rest and recuperation time.
