Wearable Art Workshop

I recently came across this FREE wearable art workshop! It's held at Northland Shopping Center during the school holidays. It sounds fantastic - if you're interested  you can book a ticket from this link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/wear-the-wild-as-part-of-spring-fuse-festival-2021-tickets-159567000193

Wear the Wild is a wearable Art Workshop series led by two experienced local artists. This hands-on skill share will engage young people (12-24) to create their own piece of wearable art inspired by their local environment of the Darebin Parklands. The outcome of the series will culminate in a young person-led exhibition or showcase as part of the Darebin Spring Fuse Festival. This workshop series would suit students interested in visual art, design, fashion, costume design, sculpture and environmental issues.

Foundation

Since being back at school, the Foundation students have been practicing painting with stencils. They were given a plastic stencil and used a dabbing technique to carefully paint over their stencil a few times. They then used another colour of paint to neatly paint the background of their page. When the pages are dry, the students will add detail to their pictures with a black pen. They will draw an outline, texture on their animal and in the background and add eyes.

Year 1/2

After a long break, the Year 1/2 students were finally able to finish off their textile collages. We worked all term on the principle of contrast - where two opposite things are beside each other. On their last lesson for the term, the students added the final touches to their work including fluffy white clouds made of teddy-bear stuffing.

Year 3/4

They Year 3/4 students have started a short activity where they get to make their own stencils. They have made a stencil on a piece of card by drawing an animal and cutting out the shape from the inside of the card. Some students even got to practice using their stencil and painting over it with paint. The next step for these students is to add a background and details to their animal with a black pen.

Year 5/6

The Year 5/6 students are racing to complete their self-portraits before the end of term. They started with learning how to mix a colour suitable for their own skin tone, then painted that colour onto some A5 pages. They used a tracing technique to draw their own face from a photo onto the paper they painted. Then they cut out all the pieces and stuck them to a background which they decorated with a pattern made of gold paper. Some students are already finished! The results are very impressive :)

 Clay update:

After 6 months of work, the ceramic pinch pots made by the 5/6s are on display!
