In the classroom

Rhiannon

What a month it has been in the MITS classroom!  The Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Nigel Scullion, Treasurer, Josh Friedenberg and Prime Minister, Scott Morrison to name a few.  Surprisingly it has not interupted the learning occurring in the classroom because most of the visits have been breakfast visits. This has not thrilled the kids because they have to get up early but they have been incredible in the way they have interacted with our guests.  The students have been asking thoughtful questions, sharing their food, kicking the footy with them and even taking a couple of 'spekkies' on the back of the Treasurer.

In Art classes the students have been making masks that represent their Totems and filming parts of Melbourne that represent their experience living away from home.  This work is part of a project that will be showcased later this year in Melbourne.

In addition to all this excitement, the students have been completing Science Projects that finished with a visit to the Edithvale Wetlands and a surprise visit to a local Primary School for an afternoon of sport.

Finally, last week we went to Phillip Island for a 3 day camp that included a trip to the Penguin Parade, Giant Swings, Abseiling, Trampolining, Rock Climbing and Archery.  It was a fun and action packed camp  that the students loved.  Although they did return a little tired.
