The MITS Family

As we near the end of Term 1 we’ve had an extraordinary few weeks at MITS.  We’ve been fortunate to have been visited by Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Treasurer Josh Frydenberg and Minister for Indigenous Affairs Nigel Scullion.  The Prime Minister took time to sit around the fire and talk with our students and alumni, to help serve them bacon and egg rolls for brekkie, and to walk with them to school down Firebell Lane and past the Rowena Corner Store.  And the Treasurer delighted in some specky practice on the lawn!

We’ve also been very happy to announce a new girls’ alumni boarding house on Richmond Hill, which will open in 2020, thanks to funding support from the Australian Government.  And, we are excited that the William Cooper Centre – a new facility at Punt Road Oval which will include an expanded MITS presence within the Richmond Football Club –is a step closer to realisation after the Prime Minister announced a significant funding commitment.

In addition to these great announcements, our students have been making the most of Melbourne: camp on Phillip Island, the season opener at the MCG and more, all of which is detailed in this week’s newsletter.

What has been clear through the past few weeks is that our students are amazing ambassadors for their families and communities. They are seen as role models to their peers and to all of us as Australians.  Their courage and ambition is clear to all who meet them, and people across our country are excited by what they are achieving.

As we head into the Easter break our students should feel very proud of what they’ve achieved so far, and their parents should be filled with pride for their young people.  We are really looking forward to seeing everyone back for Term 2 on Monday 22 April.
